Usually the manual will list common error codes under the troubleshooting section. You can probably also contact Kenmore Support.

Is there a manual for the portable Kenmore sewing machine 158-12292? Is one supposed to oil this machine?

There are few parts to oil in any sewing machine, but if you must, be sure to use a clear, light machine oil such as "3 in 1" oil, etc. The manuals are here: http://www.kenmoresewingmanuals.com/kenmore_158_manuals/kenmore_158_manuals.htm

I have a Sears Kenmore sewing machine model 385.16231300 problem I'm having is the bobbin holder won't turn. I have cleaned it. Purchased a new holder and that was not the problem.

When you say bobbin holder do you mean the bobbin case where you drop the bobbin into? That part is not supposed to turn. The metal ring (the hook) below that is what turns. I'm assuming you are having a stitching problem. First check the needle. Make sure it is in correctly and up as far as it will go. Then check the treading. Without more information it will be hard to help further.

Needle position displacement

From your limited description I believe your needle shaft has been bent. try straightening the shaft so the needle again goes down the hole it's supposed to.
