Sony cyber-shot camera problem w/hard drive

I had a few pictures taken with by cyber-shot camera that used the hard drive instead of a memory stick. I was just trying to download those pictures onto a memory stick, but somehow I accidentally deleted them from the hard drive - and they hadn't copied onto a memory stick.
Any chance I could retrieve them and if so how? (please say yes - they're rather important work pics)
Thanks so much for your help.

Hello

My apologies if this message finds you long after posting this problem , but I am currently working through a backlog of problems that never got answered and hopefully this info can still be of use if not now possibly in future.

Please download Disc Digger HERE. This is a free tool you can use that works very well and there is no installation required, just run the program once you downloaded it.

Once you have connected the memory card to the computer via either the camera or preferably with a usb card reader , run the program.

On the program , select the dig deep option for accidentaly deleted files or dig deeper for a formatted card. Then select the card you want to do the recovery on and run the program.

The data will be displayed and you can recover it from there. This will only work if the card has not been used since the pictures were lost. Save the files to a location on the computer hard drive and not back to the memory card as this will overwrite the other pictures that still needs to be recovered.

Some of the properties of the files may become lost in the recovery but the pictures should be fine.

Feel free to ask if you need more assistance.

Kind Regards
Andrea

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program.

After downloading the pictures to your computer, place the memory card back into the camera and format it.

Is it possible to retrieve the deleted pictures on memory stick?

Sorry but no. Once a memory stick is erased, the information is gone. It doesn't use the same type of storage that a hard drive uses.

Transferring photo from computer to memory stick

Many cameras will not let you write to the card. Try using a card reader, which will make the memory card appear to the computer as a separate hard drive.

Have you tried plugging your computer into usb port on your computer? Internal memory ( which after all is the same as an embedded memory stick) should come up as a removable drive and you can drag and drop form there to hard drive memory stick, etc...

Memory card

Hi - no, the DSC-P7 isn't compatible with Memory Stick Pro, only original Memory Stick, meaning you're limited to 128MB/stick. Having said that, the P7 is only a 3.2MPixel camera, 128MB will hold quite a few pictures, even at full resolution.
