HP OfficeJet R40 scanner problem on XP SP2

Scanner produces several virtual blank pages with the real page pulling in to scan in-between and cannot stop fetching virtual blank pages only when scanning is cancelled. Driver is built into XP. Any idea how to recover this phenomenon or find another driver to try-test?

Thanks, but this only leads to HP's page to tell that the driver is included in the XP driver pack. This is working abnormally now. Can you suggest anything else?

Resolution is set to 300dpi BW. Faxing works OK without transmitting blank pages (with no communication between scanner and PC). So I concluded it should be linked to the scanner driver.

Scanning works the same both via Scan Wizard and from any application.

But to be honest to me it sounds like you have your scan resolution set too high.

The screen says, "press enter to align your cartridges" !!!

The alignment process prints one page, and then you put that page into the scanner. The scanner reads the page, compares the actual alignment with the optimal alignment, and adjusts the printer, in order to produce "sharp" (opposed to "fuzzy") colour pictures.

I'm using the Officejet 5610 All in one, with Mac OSX 6.3. The driver is supposedly loaded with the OS, but my computer still can't read the scanner. I can print, but not scan. Any help?

Usually, you need to print a test page: go to start, settings, find printers and faxes and open it. You will see your printer. Right click on the printer and you will see a menu. Open Properties. Find General- there is a "print test page" button. Click on it. When the test page is printed, you will see some pictures: those are the steps you need to take to make your scanner work. Basically, all you need to do is put the test page in your scanner (as indicated) and press scan. The scanner will then do an alignment and you will be able to print.

I have network printer with scanner. Model is hp officejet pro L7580 printer. I installed a printer sucessfully but I want to use printer scanner. So how to install scanner & use it?

Hello!
In order to install your scanner, you need to print a test page. As you need to align the cartridges, you also need to align your scanner. See the printed alignment page for directions on how to complete the alignment process. Basically, all you have to do is put the test page in the scanner and press scan.

HP Officejet Pro 8500 - issue scan & copy

while the printer is on take a damp cloth and wipe the scanner glass and then open the automatic document feeder and clean the scanner glass there and then remove the cartridges and close down the printer now just pull out the power cable from the back of the product and if possible and the walljack wait for 30 secs and replug the printer first to the walljack and then to the printer, now try to scan....(if your printer is wireless then after the above you will have to run the wireless setup wizard again).if that doesn't work, try the same above but just before plugging the printer cable press and hold the power button,if that doesn't work do the same holding the #3 buttons,if this doesn't work then do the same holding down the #6 buttons,if even this doesn't work then call in to hp at 1800-474-6836 and get a replacement

You can perform following step:=====

1.Insert the document you want to scan into your scanner.

2.Click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, and then click Scanner and Camera Wizard

3.The Scanner and Camera Wizard appears. Click Next.

4.In the Choose Scanning Preferences page, click the Picture type option that best matches the paper you are scanning, and then click Next

5.In the Picture Name and Destination page, type a name for your image, select JPG as the file format, and select the folder where you would like the scanned image to be saved. Click Next.

6.Windows XP scans your document. On the Other Options page, click Nothing. Then, click Next.

7.On the Completing the Scanner and Camera Wizard page, you can view your scanned document by clicking the link shown. If you are not satisfied with the results, click Back to return to the Choose Scanning Preferences page, adjust your settings, and try your scan again. Repeat until you are satisfied. Failure to align cartidge after inserting new one

It could well be that your scanner function is broken but hoepfully it is just malfunctioning, I would recommend trying to print a troubleshooting page from the system's menu to see if it lists any error codes regarding the scanner.
