Question about Xerox WorkCentre Pro 412 All-In-One Laser Printer
I can't seem to get anything to work with this printer. I was given it to see if I could fix it, but it appears to be burnt out.
I could not get the LCD to even light up, so I replaced the power cord. Still nothing.
I pulled the tray out and checked for stuck paper - but it appears clean. I put new paper in the tray. I found a USB cord and am using that instead of the Parallel cord with my computer, but my computer won't detect it. I downloaded the user manual and went through the setup instructions, but it appears something may be burned out. It will not turn on. I took the back off and tried to see if any lights were on the motherboard, but there are none. Nothing starts when I hit any of the buttons - including the LCD. I pulled the back gearbox off, and re-set that, then I pulled the toner out of the front panel, shook it, and re-set that. Still nothing. No power. If there is a burnt out fuse of any kind inside the printer, I was unable to find it. The scanner door was broke off when I got it. It looks like someone tried to glue it. It could be fixed with industrial strength glue, but it appears to be having bigger problems right now. Anybody have any ideas? My email is firstname.lastname@example.org
In the front of the machine, on the side where the power cord plugs in, you will see 2 screws, about 4 inches from the bottom, about 10 inches apart, Remove those, then remove the tray where the copies fall into, Under there is the power supply, it is in a metal cage, you have to remove 3 screws to remove the top metal cover.
There are a couple of fuses on that power supply, but it is very unlikely they are bad, you can check them, but I have never seen one blow. What normally happens with that power supply, after a few years, heat cracks the print on bottom and it just does not turn on. The large capacitor on that board fail also.
I would suggest replacing the power supply, since it is that old you will also have high voltage problems that cause copy quality issues. Go on Google and type in " the parts drop". You can look up the price of a 412 power supply there. Or just call and ask for Britt. I do not work there, but have done business for them for years and they are the best in the business for parts.
