This happened to me because my daughter was messing with my wave radio...just hold the CD MODE button and press the on/off button and it will be fixed. It was driving me crazy! Such an easy fix!

Press the CD mode and the volume button.

I believe I read that this is a selectable mode that you can get into by holding "CD Mode" down while pressing "On/Off". I think doing this again re-enables the normal mode of the display.

You MUST have the system shut off before you can apply this fix. I had to google the Bose owner's manual b/c I was trying to apply this fix this while listening to the radio and it didn't work. AND there are different instructions/owners manuals for Bose Radios and the Bose Radios that also have CD players. My cat steps on the top of my Bose all the time and turns on the radio and messes up the presets and displays which is what caused my clock display to disappear.

There's a line fuse inside the radio, mounted on a PC board. CAUTION:
disconnect the set from power before opening the case or poking around
inside. The fuse could be bad, but these sets are notorious for losing
the power transformer. If the fuse is ok then you are looking at a
$100 repair fee from Bose. You might want to check out the new HD radios -- better sound, MUCH lower price.

Found this in the manual:
To adjust the display brightness -
The display dims automatically to medium or low brightness, as appropriate for low light room conditions. You can adjust the brightness setting of the display for both strong light and lowest light environments, but not for the medium light setting. Turn the system off before setting brightness levels.
• In a strongly lit room, hold down CD Mode and press Volume up or down to adjust the setting between 5 and 9 (it is preset to 8).
• In a barely lit room, hold down CD Mode and press Volume up or down to adjust the setting between 1 and 5 (it is preset to 2).
• If you do not want the system to dim automatically, set both levels to 5.
