Question about Sunbeam Heritage 2346 Stand Mixer

Sunbeam Mixmaster Heritage series mixer

I received the above-named mixer for Christmas 2007. I am very disappointed in it..but Im wondering if there is something I am doing wrong or just the way the mixer works. When I am attempting to do any kind of mixing, the beaters dont sit next to the bowl like they should to at least scrape the side of the bowl as I go. This is VERY irritating and I have actually only used the mixer three times since December, even though I make mashed potatoes and bake a lot of cakes and cookies. Is there something Im doing wrong? I do not have the original box that this mixer came in, so sending it anywhere for repair could become a major hassle for me.

Thank you, in advance, for any help you can offer!

Ok um.... did you read your warranty? If you had you would see that this model has a two year warranty.
If you simply called 1 800 458 8407 and told them the problem, they would file your claim and then tell you to cut the plug end off of the cord and send it (Not the unit) along with a copy of the receipt for replacement. They will then send you a brand new unit in the mail to your home. You get to keep everything, including the original unit!!. Now you have double everything (Bowls, Beaters....Mixer) That is a awesome warranty.

I don't mean to be too basic, but have you used the slider at the mixer base that moves the bowl so the beater can be at the bowl edge or towards the middle? It works on ours, it's the black pad or button there at the front of the base, just push down and slide it. Maybe they made a cheaper model with no sliding base.

I have a kitchenaid ultra power 5-spped hand mixer model khm5twh. the second beater will not stay in the socket. i'm wondering if i'm doing something wrong or if the locking mechanism has given up.

You're not doing anything wrong, the retaining gear probably has one side that is broken and it will no longer lock the beater in place. I have the same mixer and the same problem.I have searched at least 20 web sites that carry Kitchenaid repair parts and the part is no longer available. My best suggestion would be to try a local small appliance repair shop that might have the part on hand.

New kithenaid artisan mixer top of mixer is moving left to right while mixing and it is lock in.

Hi, ALEICAR, Merry Christmas & Happy New Year! Sorry to hear about your new mixer head stability issues. By the symptoms you describe, I would say that your head locking mechanism (or a component) of it is either broken, or loosened and needs to be readjusted (or repaired) to keep your mixer head stationery.
Since it is brand new, I’d let KA stand by their warranty and replace your mixer on their dime. Contact them immediately and tell them about your problem with the Link & Lever Latch Assembly not working correctly.
The KA website is at: http://www.kitchenaid.com/flash.cmd?/#/page/home.
Click on Customer Care>Contact Us> and the toll free phone number is listed to speak with someone. You can also look under the Warranty & Service Plans to see what KA will do for you. I've extracted parts of it here:
Hassle-Free Replacement Warranty
We’re so confident the quality of our products meets the exacting standards of KitchenAid that, if your mixer should fail within the first year of ownership, KitchenAid will arrange to deliver an identical or comparable replacement to your door free of charge and arrange to have your “failed” mixer returned to us. Your replacement unit will also be covered by our one year full warranty. Please follow these instructions to receive this quality service.

If you reside in the United States and your KitchenAid® mixer should fail within the first year of ownership, simply call our toll-free Customer Satisfaction Center at 1-800-541-6390, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, Eastern Time. Give the consultant your complete shipping address. (No P.O. Box Numbers, please.) When you receive your replacement mixer, use the carton and packing materials to pack-up your “failed” mixer. In the carton, include your name and address on a sheet of paper along with a copy of the proof
of purchase (register receipt, credit card charge slip, etc.).

If you want to try to troubleshoot it yourself, particularly when your mixer is out of warranty (for later) make sure to have the Parts List manual on hand. If you're lacking one, you can download a PDF version from the same website at: http://www.kitchenaid.com/flash.cmd?/#/page/home.
Click on Customer Care>Locate Manuals & Guides> and enter the 6 character model number, in your case KSM150P and select this file KSM150PSWH0.pdf (773.44 KB)listed under Parts List (61). (Check to see if this matches your mixer model).
This parts list manual provides an exploded view for the disassembly and reassembly of your mixer, along with all the part names and numbers. Turn to page 5, titled: Base and Pedestal Unit and locate Illus. #11, Link & Lever Latch Assembly (including Illus. Nos. 10, 12, 13,14, 15, 16, and 17), which locks the mixer head to the pedestal when you run the mixer. Check to see if something is just loose or broken (it shouldn’t be if it’s brand new, but strange things happen in transit…). If something has broken, you can order replacement parts and install yourself (again, let KA replace it for you…).
As far as parts go, here are four potential vendors in no particular order: RepairClinic.com; mendingshed.com; searspartsdirect.com; partstore.com. Prices for the same part can vary widely between vendors, so do your comparison shopping.
I hope this helps. Good Luck with KA! - Howard, Burke, VA

My kitchaid artisan mixer vibrates and shakes when in use. what is the problem?

Hi CHRISTIAN649, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Based on your description of the symptoms you mixer exhibits, I would say that your head locking mechanism (or a component) of it is either broken, worn or loosened due to normal wear and tear and needs to be readjusted (or repaired) to keep your mixer head stationery.
The inspection and troubleshooting of the inside of your mixer is a DITY capability, particularly if your mixer is out of warranty. Just be sure to have the Parts List manual on hand. If you're lacking one, you can download a PDF version from the KA website a http://www.kitchenaid.com/flash.cmd?/#/page/home.
Click on Customer Care>Locate Manuals & Guides> and enter the 6 character model number, in your case KSM150P and select this file KSM150PSWH0.pdf (773.44 KB)listed under Parts List (61). (Check to see if this matches your mixer model).

Nos. 10, 12, 13,14, 15, 16, and 17), which locks the mixer head to the pedestal when you run the mixer. Check to see if something is just loose, exceedingly worn or broken. If something has broken, you can order replacement parts and install yourself.
As far as parts go, here are four potential vendors in no particular order: RepairClinic.com; mendingshed.com; searspartsdirect.com; partstore.com. Prices for the same part can vary widely between vendors, so do your comparison shopping.
Once apart you can check for any other unseemly wear and tear on other mixer components. It can be messy but quite gratifying to diagnose and repair your mixer yourself.
Finally, here's a link to an excellent site that details the disassembly and replacement of a mixer's grease, which might be helpful, too. http://www.foodonthefood.com/food_on_the_food/2009/04/how-to-repair-a-kitchenaid-mixer-yourself.html
If you feel this is beyond your capabilities and would be too difficult to do yourself you can take your mixer to a local small appliance repair shop and have them troubleshoot and fix your mixer. KA Customer Care can provide you with the name and phone # of the closest authorized KA repair shop in your area or you can do a Online web search, but be sure to get at least three estimates before deciding to commit to one repair shop. Good luck. I hope this helps. Howard, Burke, VA

Wifey dropped her mixer this evening...Now its leaking oil...Hate to get rid of it...Would like to repair it if possible..Any suggestions ?

First thing is to determine where the leak is and if the broken part is available and replaceable. If it is the main housing I think a new mixer would be a wonderful Christmas present,

Clicking

I have the same mixer. Make sure the bowl is firmly latched into the base. also, make sure the bowl didn't get bent in shipping. If the paddle hits at a regular timed interval, it's must likely a problem with the way the bowl seats. As long as you don't hear a loud hit verses just a click, it shouldn't be a problem, just an annoyance. In time, you will probably heat tapping when you use the wire wisk. I am glad I bought mine. I hope you enjoy the difference a good mixer makes.

KitchenAid 250 Watts; Classic: Leaking Oil

Found this,may be helpful.
Why do I see oil leaking from the beater shaft of my stand mixer?
Some KitchenAid® stand mixers that are not used very often or have been tipped may experience slight oil leakage from the shaft or hub attachment. To avoid the oil leakage, KitchenAid suggests that you run the mixer weekly for short periods of time. Generally, the mixer may lose approximately X cup of oil before repair is necessary. The oil used is FDA approved and is not harmful to consume, should any get into the food that you are preparing.
