any idea as to how to get air out of the system?

  • bath1959 Nov 30, 2008

My new boiler 14 months old heats the rads on dual setting. for about 20 minutes then cuts out to \solid \red light. \sometimes it cuts out earlier when I TURN ON THE HOT TAPS. Sometimes there is hot water and sometimes not.

When I put it on the summer setting (ie hot water only) the green light flashes i hear the boiler kick in when i open a hot tap but there is no hot water.

This is frustrating for a family of four which includes a three year old. Its freezing and taking stress from my wife and kids,

I have heard I may need to replace the thermistor or Venturi to fix the rad.

    Help. Anyone.

Vokera Compact: Constantly have to reset it after about 30mins or will cut out if you try to put heating and hot water on at same time.

Per the User's Operating Instructions you want to check the condensate drain. Make sure it is free and clear. Also check the ingnitor, ensure there is no debris or buildup that could prevent it from firing properly.
Also, here are the Installation and Service Instructions that might be of help to you.

Without being onsite with toolbox in hand, I hope this information is very helpful to you. :-)

I can only get heating to the radiators upstairs, not downstairs

balance the rads.
upstair radiators turn all valves off, heat will then divert downstairs, open valves upstairs 4 turns on locksheilds and number 4 on trvs if u have any.
then if that does not work get a combi or powerflush.
if u cant afford then drain a little from rads, get x300 sludge remover from plumb shop and put in header tank(not hot water tank).
then fill system up and repeat balancing.

Combi bioler heats water but wont heat the

There are 2 Heat Exchangers and 2 Water Pumps on a Combi, at least the one I had when I lived in the UK did.
There is a Thermal Cut Out on both. They look like a Disc, that is Soldered [with provision for connecting the wiring] onto the Hot Water Outlet from the Exchanger to the Pump, to Supply either the Domestic Hot Water, or on the other Exchanger, Central Heating.
If 1 of these fails, the System will start up and when the temp reaches a certain point will trip out the Burner, and continue to Run the Pump until the Temperature drops, and then Stop.
The type I had, had Pumps with a Black front facind nut, this unscrews anti clockwise to release that center, that could be pulled slightly, and used as a Key to turn the Pump Impeller, in the event that lack of use would make it stick, when powered up.
There shouId be a Diagram, inside of the Front Panel, that shows the layout for the whole Internal Water flow, Pipes, Pumps, Safety devices etc. I hope this has helped you.

Potterton Suprema status light.

Hi,

Are you getting Hot water and Heating?

The reason i ask is because I don't think you have a problem.

On this boiler it has a 'pump over run' thermostat incorporated into it, this ensures heat escapes from the boiler by using the pump to cool it down.

If you are getting hot water and heating, leave it well alone, if you reset the boiler this can have adverse effects on the boiler and evenually cause malfunction.

However, if you find that you are not getting Hot Water or Heating, then the most common fault on this boiler is the PCB (Printed Circuit Board) it is the 'brain' of the boiler and the most common fault on this make. (£160 + vat)

I hope this helps,

Steve
