You can try to clean the laser lens first with a q-tip and 99% alcohol. If that fails, you should take it in for repair because the laser lens mechanism may be out of line because of a bump. There may also be a dust build up inside that prevents the proper movement of the lens. This can be done at home too.

Sounds like your lazer is weak,if you have warranty send it back for repair,if not make sure you get a quote before fixing it might be expensive.Good luck!!

Ultimately it sounds like the dvd drive needs to be replaced. The laser is weak and cannot read the data that is being sent back to the processor, that is if the laser is firing at all. I hope this helps

I think I had a similar problem with my new Panasonic DVD camcorder. Even though I had finalised the RAM disc the PC could not read the disc but could see it. I tried drag & drop into a new folder on my PC. I then renamed the video files by changing the ending to .VOB.
I could then open & play these files in Power DVD. Using software downloaded from the internet I converted the VOB files into AVI and could then use PINNACLE to edit them into a holiday movie/DVD. Some software will enable editing/reading of VOB fileswithout converting to AVI but as I am familiar with PINNACLE I just stick with what I know! Bit laborious but it worked for me.
I still prefer my mini dv camcorder - firewire works perfectly & direct into PINNACLE software for editring..

I have yet to figure out this same issue 4 years later and still won't open. Can't finalize any of my DVD discs so I can't even watch the DVDs I was able to record before the door jammed shut. Someone told me wolf camera was a great repair shop. I've just not had the time. Anyone with any knowledge of this I'm at yahoo and email is... Rileygurlzmom

I got mine to go with a good lens cleaner, just like the one for your DVD, but for your camcorder.

I have had this problem and either the disc is not formated or your battery was to low(bad battery) and I have also had bad discs. Just like with blank cds. Hope this helps!
