Pt47wx53 convergence problems

Hello and good day! From what I read, you are one of the most respected projection tv guys here. To that end, here is my problem. It started with the convergence on my TV (pt47wx53), with the green being way out of line and not wanting to get back in to place. I read all the advice...purchase two new IC and replaced them. I did that, but now have a different problem. I plugged it in with no explosions :-)...powered it on, which seemed to work fine, but then after a few seconds it powered back off with the power led blinking three times. There was also a slight smell of somthing burning. I resoldered the joints for the IC's, with no real change. My questions are; how bad did I mess my TV up? (you don't really have to answer that) and do you have any recomendations on how I can best proceed to fix my TV?

I just started having the same problem. I had a technician replace the IC's about 3 months ago... Today it shut itself off and won't come back on? Have tried unplugging it. The set will the come on, but only breifly.

This is all good news...except that you hit the nail on the head. I used seconds that lasted seconds (too funny!). Any way, can you recomend the parts (and place to buy them) to get to re-do the DIY job I did? Or better yet, is there a kit somewhere that will get the IC's and resistors?

Also (not to bombard w/ too many questions, but I will anyway :-) Which resistors should I target for replacement on the board? There seem to be quite a few.

Thanks for all your help T...it's gurus like you that make this kind of thing doable for all us wanna-bees.

I replaced the IC's purchased from Servicemanuals.com. Now my TV comes on for 1 second and goes right back off was some odd odors the first time tuning it on. What could be wrong? What is the next step.

i have a pt47wx53 also and the picture size is to big on some of the aspect ratios but one with regular cable inpit no hd signal. i did the 9 point covergence test out of the owners manual. the color at the top is red and green id differrent spots and the picture size is still big for the screen, its like its zoomed in . i thought about buying those new ic chips bought i dont know if this is the problem. also when i took the back of the tv off the mirror inside looked like it had a prizm of green on it and the 3 bulbs and mirror were dirty. would this be a issue as well. i thought the mirror would look like a normal household bathrrom mirror. where can i buy parts for this tv? thanks for any help!!!!!!!!!!!

A very common result from using inferior replacement parts is
exactly as you described, Scott. We are careful to use only first
quality STK IC's.Generally, that means paying around $16.00 each.If you purchase seconds, that is about how long they last !
Now you also must locate burnt 6.8 ohm 1 watt resistors near IC's.........Probably no further harm done....Do over with new parts.......T.

hello, it's not just about changing the convergance ic also you will have to test the resistor in front of the chip and the capacitor at either end you will have to desolder 1 end of the resistor so you get a proper reading on the multimeter also you will need a esr meter to test capacitors and good desoldering and soldering skills, i'm not trying to put you off just explaining what is needed, make sure the power off good and luck be safe

How do you fix convergence problem for this tv and how much will it cost?

Read all about this by seeking www.TvRepairKits.com. They may have a solution there. Find a hobbiest that can solder a new kit into this TV. Always use extra caution when repairing a TV. Unplug for a few days before removing the convergence board. Good Luck!

Not the convergence amps (stk-120's)

Convergence amps require B+ voltage to run them...they originate in the power supply and are fuse protected......then
they are fed to current limiting resistors near the IC's....
These devices must be checked......But,the #1 problem is use
of less than first quality IC's......STK392-110's,-120 and-150 can
be upgraded to STK394-160E made by Sanyo.....I use Hitachi
part # CZ 01341 or save money = buy kit with two IC's and some resistors part # X 480293...........read any of my convergence
repair solutions......................T.

Samsung Rear Projection HD tv IC convergence green only messed up now. Help please

To check the pico fuses you're merely testing for continuity. If you get an infinate reading you're in good shape - if it doesn't budge the meter the fuse is open... That's a really easy set to work on for convergence problems - the convergence board is easily removed..
Another cause for mis-alignment like that are the youke return resistors... There are several out front of the convergence amps that may have changed in value. They are 3.9 ohm - 2w resistors and will look identical to Rz123 and Rz124 (same banding). For those simply select a low ohm setting on the meter and check to see if any of them have some way low or way high reading...
Need anything else just ask...

RCA 52in projection TV convergence problem?

Look for connector J19105 which may not be seating properly. Unfortunatly by trying to adjust the convergence, you may have to go back and redo those adjustments if the connector is your original problem. Otherwise, using a good magnifier and checking over the connections around the convergence IC's and looking for burnt resistors might be a good second step.
