Brightness keys f2 and f3 not working after i replaced the hard disk

The brightness keys on laptops are interpreted by either the laptop hardware, or more likely, the operating system.
I would recommend going to HP's support site, http://support.hp.com, and downloading the latest chipset drivers from the site.
If you are running Windows 7 than try the Vista drivers if Win 7 is not listed as an operating system.

How do i change the funtions of the F1 to F12 keys. They are currently set up so that when i select F2 the brightness is adjusted.

I'm not sure I understand? What or Why do you want to change it? usually , when the computer is booted you use the function keys. If you reboot the laptop and immediately tap F keys you will get , say, BIOS setup, Boot Menu, Recovery program, etc. You didn't post the Make, Model of Laptop or the OS you are using?

My function keys of hp probook 4420s is not working

You have to Press and Hold the FN function key at the lower left portion of your keyboard then hit the volume or brightness keys. Notice that the volume and brightness keys are the same color as the FN function key. That means you have to press and hold the FN key while you hit the volume or brightness key.

How do i adjust brightness in hp g60

Here's how to adjust the screen brightness for a laptop in Windows 7:
  1. Go to Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Power Options.
  2. Click on "Change plan settings" for your laptop's selected power plan (either Balanced or Power saver).
  3. Now edit your plan settings by moving the sliders next to "Adjust plan brightness" at the bottom. You'll be able to change the brightness for when your laptop is On battery power, or when it's Plugged in.
  4. Once you've adjusting the brightness settings to your liking, then click on the 'Save changes' button.
Alternatively, here is another way: From the Windows desktop, hold the fn key and press the f7 key c00776226.jpg to increase or the f8key c00776225.jpg to decrease the brightness of the display. If using the function keys does not resolve the problem and you have a Lid Actuator on your particular model, check the movement of the Lid Actuator switch to determine that it moves freely and is not stuck. NOTE: The key numbers (f7 or f8 ) may vary depending on the notebook PC; however, the images on the keys should be similiar. If you reboot the PC after using the function keys to change the LCD brightness settings, the brightness may return to the default setting on some models, which is based on the power source-battery or AC. This is not an error. The notebook is functioning as designed. If the notebook returns to the default setting after rebooting on your particular model, use the function keys to change the brightness back to the desired settings.

just choose what platform of Windows 7 you have (32bit or 64bit)
-if you don't know how to look for it:
-Click on start>type msinfo32 on the search box
-it will show you the system information window and look for system type
- if it says x86, it is a 32bit version

then expand the Drivers-Graphics item:
-you will be given 2 options to select from. and its between intel or ATI
-just select ATI and it will be compatible with your graphics card
-download the file and install.
