the tv was turned off after only 3 hours of use, adn i have had it on for much longer than that in the past....so i dont feel it was a overheating issue...but thank you for the thought

  • brattbabie1 Aug 09, 2008

the power supply is screwed directly into the wall so my cats and dogs wont knocked it out of the plug....but i did unscrew it and re screw it in, just in case....still not working though

  • brattbabie1 Aug 09, 2008

  • brattbabie1 Aug 09, 2008

  • brattbabie1 Aug 09, 2008

i thought the picture tube starts to show some deterioration before it goes out?

  • brattbabie1 Aug 09, 2008

does anyone else out there have any other suggestions?

  • brattbabie1 Aug 09, 2008

i just unplugged it for 30 mins...the red light is still blinking.....its just so weird, thursday night it was fine, no issues, i turned it off just like normal. friday i had my floors cleaned adn now this....the tv is wall mounted, the plug is screwed in to the wall and i know my av rack was not moved when the floors were cleaned because there is still dust on my stuff...the floor person knows not to go near my entertainment rack....so im totally baffled!

  • brattbabie1 Aug 09, 2008

so what I am gathering is that I am pretty much stuck...I need to have a tech come out and open it up....

  • brattbabie1 Aug 15, 2008

thank you everyone for the advice, but it turns out---so far from what the repair tech said-its the SEIN board? we shall see when the part gets here Tuesday...

The most common cause of this is bad convergence ICs. These are large black ICs attached to a heatsink. They should be marked STKxxx.

if your comfortable, Try resoldering the pins on these first. if not they will need to be replaced and found pretty easy on ebay and electronic stores.

Ok, what about picture tube quality..
is it good or seems abnormal sometimes..
blinking light means that system has detected some fault.
it can cause by some drysoldering in the board.

The tv has an internal safety switch that turn tv off when there is a short, overheating or overvoltage. This is often caused by a bad capacitor, bad cold joint or faulty IC.
Try first unplugging tv from power cable for 15 minutes or so, so to reset it, sometimes this fix the problem.
If this did not work, to find the cause of the problem you need to have a technician testing components inside tv.
You find the phone number for repair service printed on last pages of tv owner manual, also check your guaranty terms.

Well it is not necessarily the power supply, if TV is not returning any error code is useless trying to guess, part and components need testing when it is like this.

Well you need somebody using a multimeter on a tv board, your tv is not returning any specific error code, therefore only way out is having a technician with his hands on your tv.

I have a Sony wega 42in tv and the tv keeps shutting off and the red light comes on

Self protection circuit will cause this---see if blinks are in a sequence---5 blinks, pause and 5 blinks etc---that will be a error code and you Can Google the model number to learn what the error is and what in general causes it.

This model is really prone to one problem in particular--screen even briefly comes up bright red, green or blue and set shuts down.

15 seconds from turn on front power light should blink as set checks several things internally---if something wrong it does not let picture show.

Usually after shut down or failure power light will blink a sequence of blinks but not always depending on problem.

Did you see the screen at all go red, green, or blue before?

the more you tell me the better I can help

Tv shut off in the middle of a movie now power light on front just blinks red and does not respond to the remote

Count the number of time the light blinks and if there is a sequence. Google your make and model number and add "blink codes" to the end. The blink code of the red light will tell you what's wrong with your tv. It's a self-diagnostic event.

TV shuts down with Red Light blinking

Thats an easy set to trouble shoot, but you would need the manual called toshiba power supply and shutdown circuit troubleshooter. It takes you step by step on the items to check so you can easilly pinpoint the problem. You can get that manual at the following link, they email it right after purchase and they also provide free one on one tech support so you can get help with it if you need. Heres the link

Please help with tv! green blinking light wont stop and tv wont turn on

Here's something that might also be useful. After you turn on the set, and get the regular red blinky lights, hold down the Device and Menu buttons together for about 5 seconds.
The Power light will start to flash in a two digit sequence.
please post your error code

Cant fix my sony KP-53S65

If the TV will not turn on and the red light blinks on the front of the set, it means that the microprocessor has detected a problem in the set and shut the set down. It then blinks the red light a certain number of times, and the number of blinks is the code for why the set has shut off. How many times does the red light blink before repeating?
