If the hard disc is corrupted, that you will be unable to retrieve your saved files. If you have them saved to sony's cloud server, then you are fine to reformat, if not, they I'm sorry, but there is no fix for your issue, you will lose you all of your saved data.
If you are getting the corrupted file message then this mean you have corrupted data on your hard drive or there is something wrong with the hard drive.
The link below will help you format the drive externally. If this does not fix the problem then you will need to replace the hard drive.
Try doing a quick format on the hard drive since the data is already corrupted. If you can't do a quick format then your going to need to replace the hard drive with another one. Any SATA hard drive will work in that PS3. Just take the old one out and put the new one in, turn on the ps3 and do a quick format on it and your PS3 will be good to go.
Has it asked you to reformat the hard disc? If you have tried that and it still doesn't work then you may need a new hard drive.
Don't worry, for $20-$50 (US) you should be able to fix it. Without knowing what happened before that it's hard to say. But my best guess is that the hard drive is internally damaged in some way. Just take off the small panel on the left side, remove the screw, use the little handle and gently pull to the right then out. It should be a Seagate SATA hard drive 20, 40, 60, or 80GB. Just buy a new one from your local store or online. Make sure that you mark the bad one before you get the new one near it so you don't get tem mixed up. Then remove the 4 little screws on the mountinng cage, switch hard drives, install back into PS3 and it will give you the format screen again. Click yes and it will format, turn off, back on, and you should be all set!!
man Format it and 99% sure that this will not work so my advise after formating your HD and i HOPE that it works with u but if it didn't go to the nearest computer store and buy your self a brand new laptop Hard Disk and plug it in and thats it, just change the PS3 Hard Disk with a new one with ANY SIZE you want ok
You can try taking out the hard drive from the ps3 and hook it up to a computer that has SATA connections. Then copy the files to a flash drive. This way you can at least save the information from the hard drive.
At that point, put a new SATA hard drive into the PS3 and format the drive. Then at that point put the information that you saved to the flash drive onto the ps3 hard drive. Do this all in the computer after you format the new drive in the ps3 and then put it into the computer to copy the files from the flash drive into the new hard drive.
Ok, it appears that your hard drive in your PS3 is corrupt and needs to be reformatted. You can get an external hard drive enclosure and do it yourself. You would have to take the hard drive out of your PS3 and put it in the external hard drive enclosure and plug that into a computer with the supplied USB cable and format it. From what I'm reading out there, the external hard drive enclosure has to be for SATA 2.5" hard drive. You could probably replace the hard drive with a larger one just as easy if you wanted to. If you don't feel comfortable with any of this, then its probably repair shop time. I hope this helps.moreover,,Use your recovery disc to reinstall your operating system. This should clean up your hard drive and restore any missing or corrupt files.
If you are getting the corrupted drive message and the built in PS3 options are not fixing the drive then you will have to pull the drive and format it externally with a computer. The link below will help you do this.
