Question about Computers & Internet

2 Answers

I have a COMPAQ Presario V4000 notebook with Windows XP Pro factory installed. I am trying to find out how to clean up the boot/startup file so that only the necessary programs load on startup, over the years I have installed numerous programs that have attached themselves to the startup file and have to be loaded each time I start my computer thus making the startup take much longer than necessary, I don't want to delete these programs I just want to load them as needed, not on startup.

First uninstall and program you don't use with Add/Remove Programs.
Look in Start - Programs - StartUp to see some of them. You can delete these safely if you want.

Use AutoRuns to see what other startup programs you have and where they are located.
www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/utilities/Autoruns.html

You can also Start - Run - MSCONFIG and use Startup tab to enable or dissble some programs and then reboot to see if it still works OK. If not then you can just run MSCONFIG again and tick the box to put them back in again.

Try to check the space of your hard drive because one of possible reason why the computers runs slow is the used space . You can check it by going to "my computer" then look for the the icon of your hardisk then right click the the mouse on the icon of your hard drive and choose properties. After clicking the properties option the hard disk properties window will appear and on the first tab the used space and the free space information

It would be better for you to defrag the hard disk and it is available on the hard disk properties windows on the second tab wich is tool tab.

While installing xp showing error

Hi Friend

Try this may help you in creating a dual boot.

First find the drivers for your network components, wireless card or nic, and save them to an external device such as a floppy disk or flash drive.

Then you will need to go into the BIOS on your computer startup. Scroll to the System Configuration tab and go down to the SATA Native Support and change its setting to Disabled. Then hit F10 to Save and Exit. (You don't need to change the BIOS if you have an ATA or IDE hard drive.)

Next, insert your Windows XPmag-glass_10x10.gif CD and create the partition you wish to install XP on. After the installation is complete you should boot automatically into XP. (To do this, right click the Computer icon in start, and select manage. Then select Disk Management, and you can do whatever you want with your partition.)

Now you need to move some files. First, make sure you have set your folder options to see hidden files and to show protected operating systemmag-glass_10x10.gif files. Then open Windows Explorer and go to the drive where Vista is installed. Copy the folder Boot, and the files bootmgr, boot.ini, NTDETECT.COM and ntldr and paste them to the root of your XP drive.

Then download Vista Boot Pro and save it to your desktop or somewhere else that you can easily access. Unless you already have .Net Framework (v2.0 at least) it will redirect you to a Microsoft page where you can download this necessary component.

Install and run Vista Boot Pro and open the "Bootloader" tab. Select "Reinstall the Vista bootloader" and press Apply. Then go to the Manage OS Entries tab and select "Add new operating system entry" and make sure you select "Windows Legacy". Give the new entry a name (ie: Windows XP) and select the drive letter you have XP on and then select Apply. You can also choose which entry you would like as the default the system will boot to.

And now you should be able to dual boot between Vista and a previous OS.

I hope this will help you out. Please vote for me.

Compaq presario v4000 needs to system restore

Reboot the computer > when you see the Compaq name appear, tap the F8 key until you see a black screen with boot choices appear. The first ones on the list are "Safe Mode", what you want is "Safe Mode with Networking", this way just a limited amount of drivers loads including your networking and internet. If you do get booted up, try to get to www.filehippo.com and download "MalwareBytes Malware Remover", install this and do a quick scan and remove anything it finds. You may also try to boot off the windows installation disc and choose the repair option for windows.

Compaq Presario C300 Recoivery Disc 2 corrupt

Hi John.

F11 process is not working and you get a NTLDR missing when you turnon the notebook.

Steps to be performed:
1. Perform hard drive self test from BIOS.
2. If it is passed then use retail version of operating system disk to install XP or try using new recovery disks which nay cost you $15.00.

In your notebook model this issue appears if there is any issue with the hard drive.

How want to downgrade win vista to xp pro hp compaq v3000

If you have a Windows XP Pro installation disk, put it in the optical drive, restart your computer, on startup, go to BIOS settings (usually press [Delete] and set the optical drive as first boot device. Save changes and exit. When the computer starts it usually says to press any key to start from CD. Press any key and the windows installation will start. Make sure you format C: and you will downgrade to Windows XP Pro. If you want to upgrade to Vista again, you will need to know the keyboard sequence to start Vista from Its partition or have Vista install disk.

I need drivers

You should'nt nead drivers to install XP Pro.
You just put the CD in the drive and switch on.
If it does'nt boot from the CD you go in to the bios and tell it to boot from CDRom first.
