"Dead" Magellan RoadMate 2000T

We removed the back, but it looks like our battery charger is soldered to the board. Are we missing something?

Do you still need help with this gps. im sure i can help you as i fix these everyday.

this is a very common problem with your model gps

the following advice pertains to the following magellan gps systems.

Magellan 800, 860, 2000, 2200t, 2500, 3000, 3050, 3100, 3140, 4000, 4040, 4050, 5310 and 6000t

i fix these and many other magellan gps daily so when considering my advice , please understand i do not google my solutions.

assuming your car charger is working (the little green light is on) and your magellan still wont start up after holding the power button while its plugged in for up to ten seconds and still does not below

this is actually a very common problem with these magellan power ports...they are poor quality from the factory and always and i mean always fail..the new ports that you find on ebay are 100% better then the factory port.

if your able to replace that power port yourself, you can get one HERE, if not, ask the fellow that sells them for help.

due to some dubious "experts" on fixya, im not permitted to help you directly, but please follow the link above to get further help.

let me know if you need more help or info

Mine had a wire coming from the battery pack that went to the board, I pulled it for a minute or 2 then plugged it back in

Mine was a 2200T - your heading says 2000T, which do you have?

  • The Goose Aug 10, 2008

I just opened mine again to take a look for you
if you remove the back, keep it face down, be careful not to overstretch the speaker wire, at the bottom left near where the charger plug there is a white block on the circuit board, and above that is the black plug coming from the battery wires, that's where you separate it and open the connection. there is a clear piece of tape over the black and white mated connection holding the two together that you will have to remove and replace when you are done.
unless of course Magellan changed this, but I would doubt it as they would want to leave the battery replaceable I would think.

Magellan RoadMate 2200T won't turn on

ost times not turning on is because the battery is flat or dead. Connect it to a USB charger or and AC charger and leave it for an hour to see if there is any recovery.

If it does not have it taken to a service centre to have the charge circuit checked and a new battery.

Please rate my help++++Thanks for using FIXYA

How do you replace the battery in a Magellan Roadmate 1200

there are four hidden screws under the little rubber plugs on the back (unless they are missing) remove those screws, then use your finger nail (thats what i use) to slid it around the seem of the front and back cover to un snap the locks.

carefully seperate them and disconnect the wires off the rear cover thats attached to the board...its pretty easy...just dont be in a hurry

youll see the battery right away and its a simple remove and soldering or any other nonsense

Roadmate 2000 will not turn on. charger light is lit. No response from unit. I turned it off and stored it for a few days, but now it is dead.

its possible it needs a new power port (very common problem on this and many other magellan gps) if your sure the charger is said the light was on, then its working..

plug it in again to the charger, then press and hold the power button for up to 10 seconds.

if that fails, let me know and ill give you something else to try

I have a legacy item (Roadmate 800). The battery was dead so I ordered a new one. The new battery powers on the unit but when I plug in ac charger I don't get a solid orange light, but a flashing green...

This is very common problem with this and many model of magellans.

Try the car charger.

Make sure
green light is on the car charger and let it plugged in for awhile, then hold the power button (up to ten seconds) until it starts..if that fails

The following Magellan 2000, 2200t, 2500, 3000, 3100, 3140, 3000, 3050, 4000, 4040, 4050, 5310 and the 6000 are known to have faulty dc connectors...if your Magellan
gps is not charging or will not power up, its most likely the dc power port...

You can
buy the port or get it repaired, HERE

if the links dont work or If you need further help, just let me know.

Magellan 2000 doesn't power up

try replacing the battery. ususally if the battery is dead it will freeze or not turn on. if this doesn't work magellan will replace it with a new one at a very reasonable price. I just replaced a magellan 800 with a magellan 3210 for $132.00. your may get a better deal. call magellan
if you have an a/c 110 volt to 5 volt converter for the magellan, try charging it in the house with that one rather than the car charger.

Magellan roadmate 700

The battery looks like a Lithium battery and it should be 3 volts or close.

I to loaded new maps and am not autherised to use them. What a joke! Looks like a case of to much security to protect Magellian's already to high of a profit!

Power pin fell off inside of Magellan Roadmate 3000T

I managed to solder my connector back in place. The ground trace broke away from the board so I had to install a jumper to ground. I put RTV on the connector to secure it after the repair.
Worked great for a few weeks until it was dropped again and lost power, something else has a broken connection.
