Question about Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate Edition

Windows Vista Installer corrupted/freezing

The Windows Installer on my Microsoft Vista operating system locks up when trying to install or uninstall any programs. I have tried CCcleaner which installed and ran ok but to no avail. I have tried System restore and it will not start. I have even tried Regcure which scans the system but also locks up once assigned to fix the errors.

Is there a way to fix my Windows Installer without reformatting my hard drive?!
I wonder if there is a registry patch for this?

I had already tried the Windows cleanup utility and it also locks up once running. This really has me stumped, any suggestions?

Ok I have it fixed but here is how I did it with some help ideas from dileepoo7. Programs will not install or uninstall in the safe mode but once in the safe mode (F8 while rebooting) I went to "fix computer" then found system restore which took a little while to boot but ultimately did work and restored to an earlier date without reformatting the hard drive. All fixed and thanks to everyone who offered advise!

Same thing! I have Vista Ultimate and I have tried restoring to the furthest in the restore history with no luck, I found a few forum posts that walked me through group policies - no good.... this bug won't stop.

I tried downloading the windows installer as per the instructions you gave here and it went through without requiring safe mode, so I thought all was well.

Unfortunately the problem is still present and now a new one has arrived... if I right-click on any shortcut to an application everything except the wallpaper disappears! The same thing happens if I highlight a file in windows explorer and then click on "file"

The only way to get the computer working is CTRL+ALT+DEL and logoff/logon

PS I've done a thorough virus scan with both AVG and Avast

    Any help most welcome
    Thanks,
    Tony

If you are sure that there is some problem in windows installer then you can download the windows installer from the following site and try installing it ....

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=5A58B56F-60B6-4412-95B9-54D056D6F9F4&displaylang=en

and if you couldnt able to install in the normal mode then just go safe mode and try installing the windows installer ....
then the problem will surely be solved

you can go to the safe mode by pressing F8 at the time of the system boot ....
after pressing F8 you must choose the safe mode ...

this might have occurred you due to some spy or virus attack...
it is recommended to install the good updated antivirus and have full system scan once..

if you are already using some antivirus then updating the virus definitions might detect the virus ...

Windows XP will not let me uninstall a programme I no longer use it tells me "InstallShield (R) Setup Launcher has encountered a problem and needs to close" HELP

This sounds to me like some of the files your computer has stored to enable an uninstall are corrupted.
Perhaps the best thing to do is use the installer cleanup utility.

Vista windows installer service corrupt. I work on an air force installation and need to know if I can fix this remotely and what is the fix because the vista computer isn't getting updates.

Download Installer manually from Microsoft. Install per instructions. Vista requires the "6.0" installer, as docs indicate.

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=5A58B56F-60B6-4412-95B9-54D056D6F9F4&displaylang=en

Are you sure it's the Installer, though?, Are there event log entries that relate to the failures?

Error 2350

THE PROBLEM The Windows Error 2350 occurs when the installed version of the Windows Installer is too old for the MSI to execute. The registration entry for the engine has been damaged and all attempts to execute the MSI installation packages will not be successful.Errors on your system may be caused by invalid registry entries and outdated or corrupt drivers.
THE SOLUTIONTo fix the registration entry for the Windows Installer, the Installer service should first be registered then unregistered using msiexec /unregister and msiexec /regserver (Type both command in run) or the command line switches. The user will then have to restart Windows.

I SOLVED THIS ON MY LAPTOP BY REINSTALLING THE WINDOWS INSTALLER. THIS PROBLEM USUALLY HAPPENS WHEN THE INSTALLER IS CORRUPTED BY SOME MALFUNCTION. THE BEST SOLUTION IS TO UNINSTALL AND RE-INSTALL THE PROGRAM FROM THE MICROSOFT WEBSITE. HOPE THIS HELPS YOU.
