Whenever I record stuff on my webcam, there is no sound. I know it's not a volume issue cause volume works on other things like youtube and music. How can I fix my microphone? I saw your answer to someone else's question, but I didn't know where the "my computer" button was. Thanks! My Aspire One (Linux version)'s internal mic doesn't work with the build-in video recording program. I also tried an external mic. It also doesn't work...

What are the audio device settings setup for in the control panel for your microphone?

This solution works for the Windows XP version. Go to msconfig.exe, then the Startup tab. UNCHECK rthdcpl and restart. Realtek driver doesn't load, but who cares...the microphone works now.

The solution is: you have to install the driver that is on the Acer FTP site. No matter that there is a newer version out on the Realtek site, just install the Acer version. It will work then.

Here is the link to the official drivers:
ftp://ftp.work.acer-euro.com/netbook/aspire_one_150/driver/

Hi, I bought an Acer aspire 1 2 days ago I also found the same problem but I solved this by going onto the acer homepage and selecting support, I had downloaded skype and tested my microphone and it worked and then checked this on my msn which also work what the problem is that you need to update you will see an update called communicatios suite with other updates update these on your aspire 1 please update all these with given time of 30 mins to complete. But if your wanting to use the video recorder the one problem is that acer are working on a codec update for video recorder please keep your eyes peeled for this update by checking your updates regular.

Cheers

I haven't got a solution only some info:

In The linux version of Acer Aspire One there seems to be a problem using both internal and external microphones with the webcam and for recording. Looks like it is a driver problem - hopefully ACER who sells computers without a working mic - solution, will have an update soon! - or else we will have to look at the linux community and hopefully find someone who can create missing driver.

It's a shame that ACER sells a product that is not really finished... Who would ever belive that in 2008 a pc with a built in webcam wouldn't have a functional microphone - internal or external.

I too had the deaf mic problem. A mic connected to side port worked, while the mic next to the webcam was very weak. I know it worked before as I used it to make VOIP calls when i first bought the netbook. However, something happened, perhaps an application tampered with a BIOS setting(?) and the mic went unusable (very weak). I tried adjusting XP’s sound settings with no luck. I was going to download a new driver, but the 50Mbyte file gave me pause. I decided to check if there was a BIOS setting for the mic by rebooting and pressing F2. I discovered there was no setting for the microphone. However, when I finished my reboot, I discovered that I got my microphone back (the recording level was as good as a plug-in mic). Hmmm.. next time I have built-in microphone problem, I will go through this procedure again. Can ACER explain this? Do they need to update their BIOS? Mine is 3304.

I got my Aspire One 150 (Model ZG5, with Windows XP Home Edition installed) on Jan 16 2005, and surprisingly, the problem of this thread was still there!

I tried some solutions of this thread, but some are partially helpful, and some update file sites seem to be not working for the time I tried. Finally I found a solution on http://www.aspireoneuser.com/forum/.
(And it's also a anoying and common problem there, people are tortured by it. Not all dealers are able to handle this problem. Some local dealers even request people to send the machine back for them to analyze!)

My situation is:
1. The mic beside the webcam doesn't work. It only records very low volume noise.
2. The mic socket works fine.

The solution is basically to use a OLDER driver instead:
1. Go to http://freewarelist.net/realtek-high-definition-audio.html and download WDM_R178.exe
from one of the links. (I got mine through Software Author.)
2. Remove current Realtek High Definition Driver and restart the computer.
(I remove it through Control Panel's "Add or Remove Programs".
But I am not sure if that's because I tried install Realtek Audio v5.10.0.5628.)
3. When the system restart, it would detect the audio hardware and try to find the driver for you,
cancel it.
4. Run WDM_R178.exe to install the driver.
5. After you restart the computer, the mic beside webcam now works.
(It works better than the mic socket! ;-)

Best regards.

actually u dont have to do any of that. instead when u open up the video recording wizard the volume input level button is all the way at the bottom. just raise this up to whatever volume u desire and it records with audio.

I have found this on the iNet:

install
ucview-0.22-2.fc8.i386.rpm and
unicap-0.9.3-1.fc8.i386.rpm

Better still if the system is upgraded to fc10 with the latest alsa-drivers.

- I have found this non the iNet, install:

ucview-0.22-2.fc8.i386.rpm, and
unicap-0.9.3-1.fc8.i386.rpm

With an experiment with another fedora 10 usb flash, I find the quality is even better with a matching alsa-driver (1.0.19), and newer unicap and ucview versions.

Still have deaf internal mic (xp home). I have downloaded the Realtec HD driver from acer (this is the only audio9 driver they show on acer-euro. There may be other audio drivers I should be removing and reinstalling, but they are not listed on the acer site. Where do you get the Live Update, and can you get it for the xp? Thanks.

Hello all,

the linux webcam program doesn't record sound on the aspire one. You need to get another application to record video and sound.

If your internal mic doesn't work have a look at this thread:

http://www.aspireoneuser.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=1820&p=14534&hilit=sound+recorder#p14534

When are manufactures going to realize that a consumer appreciates and recommends a product / brand, that works well and lasts. Stop making products on price margins so tight they produce something that turns out not fit for purpose!! Thanks Acer you complete W**kers You should spend less on advertising and more on product quality testing or at the very least provide a solution to your own failings. I'm running a Linux version with a Mic that doesn't work? Any know a way to fix it?

I experience the same problem... when I make a video conference on Messenger both the webcam and the mic work fine... but the problem is when I try to record video with the application that came installed in my Aspire One... just video no audio capture whatsoever,,, I also tried different settings with no success. I contacted tech support on Acer and the "solution" they gave me was to download a third party application because the application that comes with the computer does not capture audio (even though the controllers and settings include choosing wheter to capture from an internal or external mic and volume etc,) so this is weird... hope there is an update indeed that solves this soon.

I HAVE A MICROPHONE PROBLEM AS WELL.
I recently bought from amazon a pink acer one. 160hd,1gig ram and xp built in.
Before this I bought a white Acer one...same specs...160, 1 gig xp.  ..but everything worked just well out of box.

Difference I noticed was the BIOS...my white acer one uses the 3301 version while the pink acer uses the 3305 version. I wonder if thats the cause of the mic not working correctly.

Heres what i tried... I went to acer website...downloaded the audio driver...installed it. Didnt restart it...tried my skype again...MICROPHONE WORKED!!! But whats strange is when i Restart or Log Off my pc....the mic will stop working again. Ive tried a number of things...even uninstalled the audio drivers and reinstalled it...but still same story...MIC will work.  BUt when i log off or restart...it will not work again.
Which leads me to believe that its a software issue.  cause the mic is working when i install the driver.
ANYONE HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM.  NEED ADVICE.
