This may just be a simple software glitch, that a bios flash could cure. Go to Dell's support site and download the bios program or any updated bios. Also check for any patches that might clear this up. Dell is pretty good about keeping on top of little bug problems with their machines. If the bios flash doesn't work or if there is no patch , then the problem may be with the power management system on the motherboard. This is a common problem in many different machines. Let's hope the flash does the trick, but if it doesn't, then the problem will be a board component, and you will need to take it for a professional diagnostics in order to track down the exact problem.

That's right, I forgot about that little Dell detail. Just a thought, check the battery connector in the machine to see if there is something in it, or if one of the contacts is out of place. It will have to see the battery to do the flash. Have you downloaded any patches, if not try this one. Also, I doubt that this will work, but have you tried a system restore.

I'm going to say no. You're going to run right back into needing the battery as soon as you try the flash, but it couldn't hurt to try.

Unfotunately, Dell doesn't offer the bootable disc option. I don't think you can jumper the battery connection, but you can try. I've never tried it.

First check in BIOS whether the BIOS itself is identifying the battery.Behind the battry there is a health check meter which will tell the current health of the battery which will tell you whether it is time to replace the battery.
also try reinstalling the ACPI chipset driver.

Using Dell laptop Vostro 1500, but battery cannot communicate with the system

There might be a possibility that the battery is not making good contact with the laptop's charging circuitry. To eliminate this possibility as a root cause of the battery not charging, turn off and unplug the laptop, take the battery off the laptop, and using a dry tooth brush, scrub in between the fins of the battery connector on the motherboard & on the battery it self. When done, put the battery back into the laptop, plug it, and turn it on.

I'm in the process of "downgrading" my Dell Inspiron 6400/e1505 from Vista to XP. Using nLite I have slipstreamed drivers downloaded from the Dell website and then created a bootable iso XP disk which...

Just boot from XP CD - pressing F12 should give you the option in Bios, allowing you to boot from CD when all is completed. Some PCs still need sata/scsi drivers loaded by pressing F6 in the install. If all fails read original manual that came with Dell 6400. If lost you should be able to download from dell support, using express service tag.

Here are my recommendations for this issue:

1. Reseat the battery.
2. Remove All External Components
3. Check the battery connectors on the battery and the system. Examine the connector on the battery and the system. Make sure that there is no physical damage and that it is clear of debris.
4. Remove All External Components
5. Try a known-good battery in the system, if available.

Reset bios password

If you are not afraid to open the box, the simple fix would be to remove the cpu battery(looks like a quarter) for about 30 seconds and replace, then boot up. At that point it will ask for information such as date and time, but then you can access the bios
