Sony vaio cpu is makes a lot of noise

Our Sony Vaio PCV-RS720 CPU is always running and makes a lot of noise

My CPU overheats easily when heavily loaded, especially when processing video. The RPM of the CPU fan increases and makes a lot of airflow noise until I terminate the video task (internet video viewing, video file conversion and compression, etc.). The 3.0 Ghz P4 Prescott CPU generates much more heat than the previous generation P4 (Northwood) at the same speed.and the cache redesign doesn't even work as well, resulting in slightly less performance than the Northwood. One solution is to replace the Prescott with a Northwood of the same speed. Another is to get a copper heatsink/fan to replace the inadequate aluminum one supplied with the computer; and use Arctic Silver 5 heatsink compound, not a less-conductive silicone-based compound. I'd prefer, however to upgrade to a higher performance processor, if this can be done. Will a socket 775 dual core processor (like Pentiun D) work in my Vaio?

I bought my PCV-720G a few years ago and the damn fan is RIDICULOUSLY loud. I didn't think much of it until a family member mentioned I try to use my Vaio to record audio and all I can hear on the recordings is the can I fix it without replacing the chipsets (as I am NOT all that tech-savvy)

Im not 100% sure nut i think its the power supply cause some power supplys are very noisy and it might be why the cpu is overheating

I actually have the very same computer, PCV-RS720G, the best solution is to just upgrade the fan. The easiest thing to do is to take the fan out of the Vaio and bring it with you to Microcenter or whatever your local equivalent is and ask someone in the store for a compatable fan. Unless you feel comfortable ordering on line. I would suggest something with 3 speeds and 9 blades. Silicone pegs (instead of screws) would be a big plus.

As an addendum to my previous statement, the fan you need to replace is the CPU fan the round one attatched to the heatsink... now I don't know if you can find thees anymore as this chipset is fairly old, you might have to replace the entire heatsink assembly...

The C{PU isn't causing the noise, it would be the fan inside your computer. You might need to clean from dust or replace it.

This is a followup to my September 27 2008 posting, and represents the solution for me. I tried replacing the CPU fan and heatsink and used the best thermal compound. This reduced the fan noise a bit, but under heavy loading the CPU still overheats with the same result as before. Since the motherboard does not support upgrading to a more powerful dual core processor, my final solution was to buy a much more powerful laptop computer that makes no noise and can be easily moved anywhere in my home (I added a WIFI local network). I still use the older computer for some tasks, but I moved it out of the family room, so it would no longer bother us.

You need to go to MSconfig and turn off all programs you do not need running when booting the computer. Run scandisc and defrag. Make sure that you have a lot of RAM memory. Scan for viruses and malware.

I want to upgrade the mother board in my Vaio PCV-RZ44G Desktop so that I can run Windows 8. What board forms are compatible and is an Intel I3 or I5 CPU better?

You would be better off applying the money to a new computer. You are opening "Pandora's Box" . You will end up with a old case with ALL new components. That may or may not work, A.K.A., "pain and heartache".

My sony vaio VGN-CS11S is soo noisy

The fan's bearings are probably going bad, or there may be some object that was sucked in to cause the noise.
