Question about Miele S548 Bagged Canister Vacuum

Power to power carpet head

I had trouble with this Miele vac starting, it would try to come on when the rewind would move; I took it apart found the electrical connections inside the rewind to be dirty and not making good contact because what seemed to be too much end play at the rewind axle, put a washer there, cleaned the copper rotary electrical connections and it seemed to do the job; So I put the unit back together and my wife informed that the carpet beater would not come on. So I take it apart and look to see if something was left unconnected, did not find anything that looked obvious. I checked to see if it was sending 110 volts to the connection where the vac hand held hose plugs into the cannister, no voltage; it had continunity from where the hand held hose connection plugs into the vac all the way back to the connections inside the motor compartment, it was good. Also I checked that the cover safety lockout was going into its socket to make a connection, was OK. Could I have got some wires switched inside where the rewind electrical connections are, is there a schematic to show me something on wiring detail or did something short out that feeds 110 volts to the power head unit. Do you have some advice where I may need to check next or what parts I need to check.....My wife is having a fit......................Thanks......Ronnie.......

Thanks for the reply; since I posted the question which was a while back, I found that the problem was that the contacts on the electrical connection at the middle of the cord reel needed more pressure so they would make better contact. The solution was to take the slack end play out of the cord reel, put a spacer washer on the inner side of the shaft of the cord reel, thus keeping contact pressure on the electrical contacts at the middle of the cord reel............worked fine......Thanks for the website. Ronnie.......

Once again remove the electrical connections and clean it and also blow the dirt and then fit it tightly and carefully.if anything broken inside replace it.

It sounds like the spring on the cord reel let go. difficult to reinstall. it may have been broken already and that is why it came off. it is rather meticulous trying to work on a cord reel. many can't be disassembled without breaking

You may have stripped the gear end on the beater bar. I suggest that you contact RepairClinic.com They have parts and also give good advice. I have used them in the past and found them to be very reputable.

Miele upright vacuum makes loud noise and dust comes out at bottom

It sounds to me like one of the hoses is plugged, probably the one that comes from the brushroll. That would make the dust and dirt come back out the front and would not let the vac pick up like normal. Clear the plug and you're machine should start cleaning better again.

MIELE Silver moon turns off after about 10 minutes of using. If I press the "+" button on the handle, it'll turn on again and start up again. Is this an overheat thing or a hose thing?

That sounds like a hose issue, but to make sure it's not an overheat issue I would recommend ensuring that the hose, wand, and dirt tube through the power-head are all clear and free of obstruction. Also try raising the height adjust on your power head: if you have it set too low, air can't move through the carpeting and therefore it will overheat the motor and also not clean as effectively as it could. If all of these things check out, you will have to replace the hose with an SES-125A, but once you've done this you will not have the issue again. Cheers! -R

Reset button or Fuse on my Infinity?

Ok, I took it apart, cleared the clog out, and put it back together. It wouldn't switch to "carpet". Got no answer on my question. Took it apart again, only I went further. Took apart the bottom - brush out, all inside bottom parts out, cleaned all that part of vac. No clogs down there. Ran the carpet/bare floor switch back and forth several times while I had it apart. Put it all back together and it worked fine. Still didn't find a fuse or reset button...

Check the plug ends at the top of the wand and the plug going into the hose handle, also at the bottom of the wand. It sounds like they may be burnt, if so they will need to be replaced. One cause of these connections going bad is not turning the power head off when connecting or disconnecting. Therre are other causes, the switch in the handle is going bad, also some of these cannisters have a relay mounted by the vac motor, sometimes they go bad.
