My almost new Panasonic PV-C2021 (combo TV/VCR) loads tapes, then eats them. When I look at the capstan motor (direct drive), it appears to be moving back and forth (strongly) instead of spinning. Is this the motor or is it the power supply? I found an old article about leaky caps on the 5 and 15 volt rails in the power supply, but I think the symptom there was speed going up and down.
John: Certainly start with the power supply and if you do not have an esr meter to check the electrolytics in the SMPS... just replace all of them.... many suppliers will have repair kits that will include most of the electrolytics that need to be replaced. Also..... if the problem still persists after the power supply is taken care of then you will want to focus your attention to the capstan motor driver chip... and eventually the motor itself. -- Best Regards, Daniel Sofie Electronics Supply & Repair - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

toshiba cx35f70 11/1996 picture went to snow middle of the night unseen. good dvd or cable input results in blank or snow respectively. suspect tuner since all inputs sem to be "disconnected" internally from the A/V output

From my garage gave it to a friend, when he set it up it plays VHS tapes so tube and functions work, but he can't get the TV function to work. Don't have the manual anymore. Is there a specific menu setting that needs to occur? or the auto channel set up that may not be right? Any troubleshooting or step-by-step directions would be helpful! ~ Dom
