Generally, you open the cover of the ink area, when the machine is on, and the cartrige tray will move to the center. The inks rotate out, look for instructions inside, usually downward. Remove any tapes or covers from the ink, don't touch the contact area. Snap the ink in, close the lid, see what the computer has to say.

How do I get the HP G85 to open in order to replace the ink cartridges?

There is a spring loaded handle in the top center where the paper comes out, you pull the handle toward you and lift at the same time.

Paper Jam - HP G85 Ink Jet Printer

You open the door from the back of the printer (turn the knobs) and the paper can be removed from the back. After removing paper jam, replace the door. It is a long door as wide and the printer, but about 2 1/2" wide.

Cartridge

Easy! Just open the front latch by lifting up, unlock the cartridge you are replacing, and snap in a new one. I caution you to use only HP new cartridges for best results. You can find a pretty decent price on them at www.amazon.com. Also, reset your ink counter in the HP Image Zone to reflect the new cartridge install. Then run the align cartridges option and you're all set. Hope that helps. If so, please rate this solution. Thanks!

You may have spitoons full of ink. Check the Officejet G85 thread on fixyourownprinter.com I also refurbish them as a hobby and have spare parts. I can be reached at doctuh at the yahoo.com domain.
