First you need a dvd-rom Then when starting the computer press F1 or F2 or esc to get into the bios. Set the boot order to boot from the dvd-rom first then the hard-drive. Put a windows install dvd in the dvd-rom. restart the computer. Press any key once the windows install comes up choose the partition or hard drive to format. You won't be able to format from windows directly unless it is a second partition. In the old days you could format using dos. You may be able to use a utility like Hiren's Boot CD to format
1. Boot the system form CD/DVD/BD Rom 2. Windows Visa take some time till a popup windows will appear . Click on Install. 3. You will see Hard Drive Partitions. 4. Click on the partition you wish to format 5. On the lower side of the windows , click on advance .You will see more options. 6. Click on format. 7. Setup will format the selected partition
Insert Windows Reinstallation disk into tray, Boot to CD/DVD-ROM by pressing F12 at initial boot screens, delete existing Windows partition, re-create partition, and then follow steps to reinstall Windows. This will lead you to an option for formatting hard drive. I recommend choosing the full format versus the quick, from this point you can let windows install, or just shut the computer down when the format finishes. You will have to watch the progress, though, if you don't want the install to commence.
Boot disk option:
For XP, 95, 98, or ME, follow the instructions at this MS article page. It will walk you through creating a boot disk that will allow you to format.
Hi, You need the specific firmware driver for the dvd-drive. Go to My Computer and right click on the disk drive icon, then click properties, then click the Hardware tab. Look in the list for the model type/number and then enter that (exactly) into Google, followed by the word 'driver'. You should be able to find a link somewhere to download the driver. Once you have downloaded the driver, you may have to unzip it into a folder. Then go to Control Panel, and System, and Device Manager. Find the disk drive listing and click on it, it will drop down a listing for the generic disk driver that is currently being used. Double click on that and click the Driver tab. Click update driver, and choose the option for letting you find the driver on your machine. Navigate to the folder that you unzipped it to and double click on the driver. Press enter and it will install. Maybe need to reboot. Good luck Anir
