Ekse suggested a tripod, but the camera has no attachment for a tripod. Help!

Reply to Informatica; Have you ever used the Vivitar Camera Binocular? It is very small and extremely difficult to maneuver while trying to depress the tiny shutter button!

Ekse's comments were posted earlier, and not in response to me. In fact Ekse's comments were posted before I had posted at all! I still need a response to my follow-up query of Informatica. Thanks.

I hope Informatica can follow up with my reply to her/him yesterday. Or perhaps someone else can check out what I wrote to Informatica and answer that. Thank you.

Hi - I often use a bean bag to support a camera or Binoculars. You can place it on a wall or the top of a car etc. Perhaps another idea would be a "monopod" or even walking stick with a bean bag on top.
You can also use a modified sling as described on this link here.

Hope that helps!

I would suggest using the higher image quality setting, but there is not else you can do about the poor quality.

The 640x480 which is the best setting the camera offers is really poor by todays standards. Last time I checked I saw this camera for sale around 20 to 50 usd and it really isnt that great of a product.

  • Ekse Aug 09, 2008

But if you want to steady the camera.. A tripod would do the trick.

  • Ekse Aug 09, 2008

Does the image quality improve if you let it sit on a table or a flat sufrace so the camera doesn't shake, take a picture and see the results?

  • Ekse Aug 09, 2008

Well as you have noticed.. the product is pretty poor and hard to use.. I would suggest buying a better camera I know you wont like the suggestion but still theres not much we can do about it.

Why are my pics so blurry?

Because of the magnification any unsteadiness in your hands is multiplied. Try to brace your elbows or put the camera on something steady. About 1/2 second after you click the button is when you hear a little beep. That's the moment you ahve to hold the camera very still.

Also, I wear glasses with a strong correction, I get better pictures when I take them off to focus the binoculars.

What kind of USB cable comes with Sharper Image 10x25 binoculars

Go onto the www.Sharperimage.com web site if you look it will tell you that Sharperimage are in receivership but they do point you in the direction of a support comapny called N.E.W.

In reality you should be able to buy those leads from any decent camera shop or a place like Tandy

Poor quality

My response to these always makes me sad. There is no way of getting good picture. These camera binoculars are neither good cameras or binoculars. They do neither well. The camera is just attached to the binoculars. What you see through the binoculars is not what the camera sees. The binoculars magnification is not the same as the lens in the camera. It is like holding a camera on top of a pair of binoculars. The camera will take a picture in the area approximate to where you are looking. Digital cameras have a sensor. The more megapixels the larger the sensor should be. Camera makers are now making compact cameras with huge megapixel capacity without increasing the sensor size. The result is worse looking pictures. Not much is different with the cameras attached to binoculars only the sensors are much worse quality than those on a stand alone digital camera.
Maybe not the solution you wanted buts its the truth. If you do want to take bird photos your best bet is a pair of binoculars on a tripod with a digital camera adaptor and camera attached. The camera adaptors that are made in China are not expensive and are copies of some of the high priced units out there. all the adaptor is is a bracket which attaches to a tripod which holds the camera to one of the binocular lenses. That way you see what the camera sees through the binoculars.

Vivitar Camera Binoculars 10x25

The problem was with the camera. The message "there is nothing in the camera" indicated that the software was accessing the camera, but nothing was showing up in memory. I deleted all of the photos in memory reset the camera and took some more test photos. The next time that I connected the camera. The software recognized the photos in the camera's memory and all was as it should be.

No pictures??

This sounds like the same problem I had. I could not find a solution without losing the photos that I had already taken. Try reseting the camera. In the menu clear all the photos out of memory. If the picture counter doesn't reset you may need to physically kill power to the camera (by pulling out the batteries) this will delete any photos in memory and reset the photo counter. Once you are sure that the memory is empty. Try taking some test photos and reconecting to the computer to see if the software sees the new photos. You may want to delete and reload the camera drivers before you connecting the camera.
