I had a similar problem when I installed a new motherboard on my Desktop. Has any of the hardware been changed on your laptop?

Try pushing no. Your windows version hasn't been Activated. Use your activation key when you get booted up. Is this a Windows OS upgrade? A reinstall? It would be helpful if you posted the Make and model of Laptop and the OS you are using.

Need a activation code for a msi netbook on windows xp

You do not specify what version of Windows you are using, but I believe that model came with Windows XP Home.
The easiest way to activate Windows will be online. Get your laptop connected to the internet. Once connected, click Start, then All Programs. Activate Windows should appear as an option in the menu that appears.
A window will open, titled 'Let's Activate Windows'. Select the option 'Yes, let's activate Windows online over the internet'.
On the next window, click yes if you wish to register your copy of Windows, or no if you just want to activate and be done with it. Press next.
If you selected No in the step above, you are done, Windows should now be activated. If you clicked yes, you will be asked for some information about yourself. Fill in the blanks provided and press next.
That's it! Windows should now be activated.
If you don't have access to the internet, don't worry. Follow the steps above to get to the 'Let's Activate Windows' screen. Select the option to activate Windows by phone and press next. You will be given a number to call. The agent on the other end will ask to verify your Windows registration key, usually located on a sticker on the back of your laptop. He/she will then provide you with a manual activation code.

Problem restarting, "press r"

  1. Start the laptop
  2. when the logo screen turns black start pressing F8 a few times.
  3. A Windows Boot Options screen should show on the screen
  4. If you see the Windows Logo (the normal thing when Windows loads, then press reset and try again
  5. At the Windows Boot Options screen select "Last known good configuration" and press Enter twice
It "should" now load normally, if not then..
  1. Replace step 5 above with "Safe Mode" and see if that loads all the way through. If so, then restart and see if its OK now.
If not, then post back with any error messages and we can look at something else.

Computer locked up and can't get into anything

Try starting in safe mode and remove the offending program.

  1. Start the laptop
  2. After the Dell Screen vanishes begin pressing F8
  3. You will get a Windows Startup Screen
  4. Select SafeMode and press enter twice
  5. Windows should load up
  6. Go into Control Panel Add Remove Programs
  7. Remove the anti virus software and anything else you suspect maybe causing grief.
  8. Restart the laptop normally and see what happens.
  9. Hopefully by now you will be able to go back and do the factory imaging.
