Kenmore Elite Bottom Freezer Refrigerator Model 795.7554

How do you clean the coils on this refrigerator? The manual says to remove the base cover and vacuum. I remove the base cover and don't have a clue where the coils are to vacuum. There is not even enough clearance between the floor and refrigerator to get a vacummn hose in there. Help?

The condenser coil on this is located in the back side and removal of the rear cover is need to get to the coil. It's on the right side looking at the back. make sure to unplug the ref before taking the back off.

I followed Ken's suggestion and found the coils behind the rear panel of the fridge. Unplug the fridge and remove the screws holding the panel (corral them in a cup so you don't lose them in the gunk). The panel won't completely come off since the incoming water line is threaded through it. Vacuum out the big dust bunnies from the grille and fan area, and work a long coil cleaning brush in the outside exposed parts of the coil (the coil is a cube shape to the left of the fan). Clean out any water/mold in the drip pan below the coils. If you have a blower you can now blow out more dust (forcing the air *towards* the fan) - this brought out more dirt than expected as the exposed coils looked fairly clean. Clean the floor under the fridge, reassemble the back, plug in, see that it is running (fan spinning), then push back toward wall being sure to leave enough space to the wall for air flow.

Bottom frezzer is working but fridge is not blowing cold air

Refrigerator gets cold air from freezer compartment. Either the air flow is blocked by food items or ice, or the recirculating fan is not working.

The most common failure is that the freezer coils get all iced up becuase the defroster timer, defroster thermostat, or heater has stopped working.

When it's running, you should feel cold air blowing out of the vents that are in the fridge, otherwise, the 'air tower' (air vent) is blocked with ice.

If you manually defrost the whole thing, and it runs fine for a day or so, then it's not defrosting properly. If you manually turn the defroster timer, and you don't hear the scorching/hissing/gurgling of the defroster working, then that would confirm a fault in the defroster circuits.

Based on the following thread, it's probably a bad defrost thermostat.

They are usually held in with clips that snap in and out. This is especially true if you don't see any visible screws. Give it a good tug on one side and see if it pops out.

Error message (?) on display of Kenmore Elite Bottom Freezer Refrigerator

The Er DH error code indicates the temperature sensor on the evaporator coil did not reach 50 degrees within one hour.
This would indicate the control board did put the refrigerator through a defrost cycle.

This problem could be caused by a defective relay on the control board, a defective defrost heater, a broken wire to the heater, or a stopped up drain on the defrost pan causing ice to form on the evaporator coil.

Before replacing the control board, someone should remove the food from the freezer, remove the freezer drawer, and remove the evaporator cover to expose the evaporator coil, heater, and defrost sensor.
The voltage to the defrost heater should be 120 volts ac.
The defrost heater is part of the evaporator coil and is not replaceable as a separate part.

You can test the operation of the defrost system by pressing "Ultra Ice" and "colder freezer temp" for 3 seconds.
The first time you press and hold the buttons the board will test the compressor, fan, and open the damper.

All displays should be on.

The second time you press and hold the buttons the board will test the compressor, fan, and close the damper.

The third time you press and hold the buttons, the board will turn the compressor and fan off and turn the defrost heater on for around 25 minutes. This would let you know if the defrost system is working.
