If the Medium Changer is missing from Device Manager on your Windows Server 2016 system, it is possible that the driver for your Quantum Superloader 3 is not installed or not functioning properly. Here are some steps you can try to fix this problem:

Hi Ulrike

I suspect that your backup software has "locked" the drive / library from the front panel.

This is why disconnecting / rebooting the library solves the issue.

If you are using backup exec or similar, try going to devices, selecting the library, right click and "unlock" before using the front panel buttons.
You could also use BUEX to do the tape moves for you instead of even touching the front panel.

In case you haven't discovered the answer yet, there are 2 "fixed bins" inside the PX502.

Look for a physical reason for the robot to stall.

A tape may be sticking out of its cell or a drive.

Never use sticky labels anywhere on the cartridge.

Power down the computer, power down the library, disconnect the library from the computer, power it up. If the problem remains try it again but this time without any loaded tapes. If it is still in the error state check with Quantum Support.

power down both the library and computer, disconnect the library, power up the library. Check the operator panel of the library for an online ready status.

The unit will need to be repaired.  Consider getting a maintenance contract on it as my px502 cost me $700 to replace a sensor and cleaning and a few other minor issues.

Please check your firmware on the tape drive. Update with X-Talk software that can be downloaded from www.quantum.com.

The host backup application probably still has ownership of the library. You normally need to select to 'open door' or something similar to release ownership back to the library
