    The network is secure WPA
    The Signal is excellent
If I connect the laptop directly to the router it is working excellent

Hey there

You are not getting this problem due to any BIOS and wireless driver.

as you said that you are not getting any problem with your another system.

Checkout for the range you are working in. else it wont be that much effective.
Sometimes it happens that your driver misplaced or changes its parametetr in registry without awaring you.

So first repair your wireless network
else secondly repair ur XP PRO.
this will surely help you to have a good speed with ur network.
Gimme your acknowledge

Thanx.

Check that your network is secured with a key, unsecured networks are easily hacked and can get very slow.

First ensure that your Wireless is secured, unsecured network can be used bay anybody and often get slow for this reason.
Also check and ensure that your computer is connecting to your own network, and is not connecting automatically to some nearby unsecured wireless network.
Many spyware and virus software can also slow down the network, see if your antivirus is working, use Spybot - software .to check if you have spyware.
Last thing, ensure that is not a browser problem, download an alternative browser like Opera or Mozilla to test the system.

It is true that bios have nothing to do with this, sometimes old drivers can give troubles.
You should read and test what had been already posted first, network can get slow for many reason, check all the tings posted already. Check also if you have a firewall, if net get faster disabling firewall on the laptop.
If all this does not work you may have an IP conflict, a faulty router or wireless adapter, or another network problem.
To troubleshoot this you will need to access to router, reset and reconfigure.
Check first what already posted, eventually download spybot and opera, refusing all solutions after you quick read them is not of any use this is supposed to be a troubleshooting session, not a questionary.

By the way, most common reason for slow network is spyware, worms etc. This often are not recognised by common antivirus, trusted antispyware are spybot and free Avg Antispyware, you should scan PC with something like this.
Many free antispyware are in truth viruses , do not download this kind of software from untrusted source. The two mentioned above are clean. Do a spyware scan first, and see if speed improves after cleaning.

then check for malaware, as suggested, does not matter if you have norton, macafee, or similar, many trojans pass through them.

If you have an usb wireless adapter, try also disabling laptop internal wireless and using USB adapter, to test network. If speed is OK with new adapter then there is a problem between your router and your laptop's wireless adapter, usually an IP conflict.

About static IP, you can use it to test your network, but many internet service providers does not support static IP, this means in some case internet does not work if you use static. If you set IP to static, ensure you get back to dynamic settings after testing.

    Try also the following,

Download Opera Web BrowserIf network is ok with different browser than it was an Internet Explorer problem.

Are you using the windows wireless manager to manage the wireless on this other system? If your not you should consider using that by going into the wireless network manager by clicking on the wireless connect in the bottom corner of your screen. Click on view wireless network. Then click on change advanced settings. Click on Wireless network tab. Make sure the top box has a tick on it beside the USE WINDOWS TO CONFIGURE MY WIRELESS NETWORK SETTINGS. Then click apply and ok and restart system. See know how it connects. You might need to enter you WAP key, I use WEP on about four laptops at home with perfect connection through my D-link hub with adsl modem.

Hi,

A few suggestions for you to try:

  • use static IP address on the Dell 1395 in the Dell Vostro 1510;
  • I beg to differ on the use of the WEP or WPA, experience has shown that they do cause a lot of lag and repeat requests. Perhaps you may be better off with MAC filter;
  • download, install and run/save DrTCP. A nice tutorial on its use;
  • Download and install NetStumbler. Use it to determine free channels and force your system to use that.
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

If that's the case we you need to do here is try updating the driver of your wireless adapter since the other wireless computer is working fine and alos that computer is working fine when wired to the router,, So wire that computer to the router and update the driver of it, if still the same problem you can also try adjusting the wireless channel fo your router if its on 6 try channel 11 and 1 because sometimes you need to adjust wireless settings on the router to make all wireless devcie work properly..

Hope that helps...........

Make sure that your virus control setting for network is ON so that it will notify you if someone else is using your connection.
Update your Virus control and do a complete scan.

What does your system have running in the background? How many little icons are there in your right hand corner. A lot of proggys that are running on start up can slow you down immensely.

Clean out your cookies-Tools>internet options>general>cookies,etc.

Do you have registry cleaning software? If so use it.

Does your other laptop have more power?

If you are not sure about the strength of your virus/spyware control, go to www.trendmicro/housecall.com for a free checkup.

Or to www.comodo.com

Do you have a lot of games installed?

Check all this out and let me know if I can answer any questions.

Its been said that if you hibernate your PC too long,

when you resume windows your wireless is 'confused'.

Try restarting or hibernating again and resuming immediately after.

Sometimes this works for me, sometimes it doesn't.

Also, if your bluetooth isnt working either, you could have a problem with your wireless.

Check for updates and update BIOS and anything related to your computers wireless assistant, connectivity, etc.

re-install the wlan card driver, just download it again dont bother uninstalling

Wireless button, won't come on. Stays the orange color.

This could be caused by one of the following issues:

WLAN is disabled in the BIOS. Check BIOS that WLAN is enabled. Update to the latest BIOS if not already:

I have toshiba l500 i changed windows vista to windows 7 now its wireless not working

First thing to do is to Go to the Toshiba Support site, ... navigate to the driver support page for your specific laptop model, ... then download and install the WI-FI drivers for your wireless card that are Windows 7 compatible. That should get your wireless working, ... UNLESS your wireless feature has been shut off in the BIOS. If that's the case, you'll need to enter the BIOS when booting the laptop and turn the wireless feature on.

While your downloading the Wi-FI drivers from the Toshiba site, you should also download the latest BIOS update IF it's a newer build than the one surrently installed in your laptop. Also download and install the motherboard chipset.

I'm pretty sure your problem should be taken care of if you follow those steps.

Fn+F8 hotkey dose not work but the remain FX go fine

Another Alternative is to check your BIOS to see whether or not your Wireless is turned on, if it is not pressent in your BIOS then update your BIOS Driver on the Internet to ver 1.4, Double check your version Compatabillity. Next if the adapter driver is installed, follow the following intructions: start -> settings -> control panel -> system -> hardware -> device manager -> now look for the wireless adapter, see if it is operational or marked with an error -> if it is marked check that it is configured for automatic, and also the resources. Set the configuration manually if so. restart the system.

1) Resource conflict = change resource settings
2) No adapter = check if the adapter is enabled (Y) then see if there is any conflicts (y) correct the settings e.g. resources and see if windows shows that the device is enabled (N) try to enable this device. If (N) then goto BIOS settings to correct it.

Hope this helps

if you dont see it in the device manager , then you have an item listed as yellow /unknown device ,that is the wireless and needs the driver installed.
if you see neither then you may have disabled the wireless in the bios.
