HP talks funny. Actually, they aren't funny at all. (HP no longer supports this machine, so I don't support HP anymore.) Run part number 5188-7284 through Google. (My machine is an IQ770 and might be the same as yours.) You can find used fans for $50 - $100 (usually from the UK). They will probably come with the entire heat sink. Just take it out and put the fan in your machine. HP gives out the wrong part number as they don't consider the one attached to the heat sink to be a fan. That's why they sent you the wrong part. If you ask how many fans it has, they will state "only one." This is not true (obviously). And I don't believe that they offer the heat sink anymore. <grrr>
You could try Ebay or the like, for a fan that looks the same to you.
Unfortunately that is why I prefer to build computers myself from components.
Custom computers.
Just because of this fan issue you may need to buy a new computer, that is if you can't find a new fan. State this to HP, are they willing to provide you with a new computer.
