Hi,
Those flappers need to be replaced regularly. They are available at many store like Home Depot or Lowes Make sure to get the make of your toilet and maybe even the number of the tank. It is stamped on the inside of the tank.
Then buy a new flapper and replace it, it is easy!

I have a Pegasus toilet and need a part for it. It is the part that fills with water and that flips over when flushed and then flips upright and fills back up with water.

I believe the part you are referring to is called the flapper. Sometimes a little debris is the cause of a flapper not seating correctly. Clean it first then replace parts. Good luck!

After flushing the toliet continues to run. flapper will not automatically go down

Replace it and see if fixes it. The flapper is designed so that it stays afloat until all the water empties from the tank, then gravity takes over and closes the hole up and thus fills up. If you have a ballcock then the flapper may get trapped underneath when you flush it.

My toliet keeps running. Have checked valves flap etc. I turned the water off , using the little toliet tap. Can I turn it on too much, making the pressure to high??

Replace the flapper. That is cheap to do. You can turn the water on near wide open And it should be ok. In other words, if you can't turn it on wide open, then something is wrong. I would just turn it on about 3/4.make sure your flat is not allowing the water to go over the top of the open tube.in the tank.

Toliet won't get rid of solids

first shorten the chain from flush lever to the flapper valve by one or two links at a time until flushing properly

second the flapper valve might need a wipedown as well as its seal (top edge of tube where water goes down into bowl) the leaking is because the flapper valve is not seating properly.. you may need to replace the flapper itself.. easy to do, and a common part at hardware store.

I have a Eljer 150-403 and the toliet will not flush, although the handle is able to be moved down

Hi,

Remove the tank lid and set it aside. Inside, you should see where tha handle passes into the tank. There should be an arm running along the inside of the tank that raises when the handle is pushed down. Attached to the end of the arm is a chain that goes down into the water and attaches to the flapper valve. Now that you have identified all of these parts, push down on the toilet flush valve, and you should be able to identify where the toilet is broken. It is most likely he flapper or the chain.
Shut the water off behind the toilet, at the wall. Slowly stick your hand into the tank, and raise the flapper. (Don't worry, this is clean water).
Let the water drain through the toilet, and make your repair. All oarts necessary are available at any hardware store. Take your old part with you.
Best regards, --W/D--

Toilet Question

Yes, it will run up your bill! Sounds like the float is hanging up. Take tank lid off and flush, watch the float and if your tank fills quickly but does not stop, bend the float arm to angle the float down further, this should allow your water to stop coming in much quicker. The other possibility could be if the plug at the bottom does not seal correctly after flushing, if so, the water will leak until the plug sits down all the way.
