the problem started after a normal operation the night before. tried removing and re inserting each component of the mother board, including the ram chips. i'll try to remove and re insert the ram chips though. but if this does not woork, does it mean my ram chips are bad?thanks randy v.

I hav recently moved and my HP Compaq d530 took a knock, i have just set it up and when turning it on it sounds 5 beeps, pauses then repeats. Could something have come loose or this a major problem?

Do you have the RAM chips installed in the right socket, and the right way?

I have compaq 530 tower which when I switch on gives 5 short beeps, I have checked the connections as advised and they seem ok, looking on net it says 5 short beeps could be prob with CPU, what is CPU.

5 Short Beeps
Your motherboard is complaining. Try re-seating the memory and rebooting. If that doesn't help, you should consider another motherboard. You could probably get away with just replacing the CPU, but that's not too cost-effective. Its just time to upgrade!

HP d530 cmt 2 short 1 long beep. No POST is displayed

Hi,

You must be using a USB keyboard. I suggest switch back to PS2 keyboard. Moreover, the system board supports dual channel so you should be using matched pairs plus placing them in the correct slots to enable dual channel mode.
Try this and it should work without any trouble.

Beeps on startup, no signal to monitor

Hello Dear,

We need to check the Beep Counting, If its continuosly then it seems there is some issues with Keyboard. maximum times it happend because of Memory. You Just open the Cabinet and try to change the Memory slot. Hope it will resolve. If not then Remove one RAM Stick (If there are Two) and check if its working if not then try to connect the second one and remove this one.

Hope this will help!

Computer will not start

It all depends how many beeps there were.
From http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/12253_div/12253_div.HTML
Diagnostic LED Explanation Table Number of 1-second red LED blinks followed by 2-second pause, then repeats:
2-processor thermal protection activated
3-processor not installed
4-power supply failure
5-memory error
6-video error
7-PCA failure (ROM detected failure prior to video)
8-invalid ROM, bootblock recover mode

I have only really come across 4 beeps = order new Power Supply or 5 Beeps = reseat the memory and hope it works

Oli

HP COMPAQ D530 RED BLINKING LIGHT WITH BEEPING SOUNDS.

4 beeps & 4 flashes mean problem with the power supply. For my experience, most of the time the PSU is good, it is just overloaded.

HP Compaq d530

it all depends on the number of flashes , pause, repeat.
Since the problem did not indicate any beeps her is the following info

Power LED blinks RED 2 times, one every second, followed by a
2-second pause. = Processor Thermal Protection Activated

3 blinks 1 second apart = Processor not installed (not an indicator for a bad processor).

4 blinks 1 second apart .= Power Failure (power supply is overloaded)

Other possibilities are:
5 blinks 1 second apart No memory
6 blinks 1 second apart No graphics
7 blinks 1 second apart System board failure (detected prior to video)
8 blinks 1 second apart Invalid ROM
