Not a Galaxy DX-2517

Bought it on eBay, and it looks just like the 2517, but doesn't have a frequency counter. What model is this thing? Also, there's a knob all the way to the right, that I can't figure out WHAT it does.......

If its the same size as a Saturn or 2517 and it has no freq counter it is "probably" a Galaxy SSB base unit. They were the ones before the Saturns and had echo but no freq counter. The only other base unit I can remember that had no freq counter was an Excalibur. Maybe its a Galaxy Melaka. I cant remember if they had a counter or not but they were 40 channel boat anchors.

You radio is Oscillating. For most things I can give an at home fix. But from what you are saying you should take it to a tech and have them put it on a Oscilloscope. The frequencies are not mixing right. Anymore questions feel free to ask.

White noise on the receive any help would be appreciated . dx-2517 base

sounds like your receive is off frequency. Try tuning it in with the clarifier. If you can tune it in better then you need to align the receive.

Galaxy dx 2517 frequency drifts sometimes on recieve and sometimes while talkng freq will go both ways up and down

The mixer crystal is unstable. It may need replacing. Some times you can reset them. Take a soldering iron and heat up the mixer crystal up for about 5-7 seconds. See if this stabilizes it. If the radio still drifts,then you need to replace the mixer crystal.

Just want to know where to set all the bottoms on this Galaxy DX44 V to be ableto talk to people on channel 19

With out a frequency counter to tell you what freq you are transmitting on there is another way.

Turn to channel 19. mess with the switches untill you hear truckers on the highway. then you have got it.

Otherwise pick up a frequency counter on ebay.

Rolling Frequency Counter

I'm giving this info from the Master Edition of C.B. Tune-up manual Volume 1 year -1995. The original price of this info was $39.95 But I have had people help me with radio info. so here it is---- on page 60 it says [ Model ] : Galaxy Saturn ( and export models using the same Freq. counter module ) The most common problem with the { Galaxy Saturn } is after it has been on for awhile the read-out becomes unstable. And sometimes it will quit all together. This problem has been traced to a Zener Diode inside the freq, counter module. The square silver box located right behind the speaker. The Zener Diode inside marked D-603. This is a 2.4 volt , 1/4 watt diode next to IC-609 the ( LM-7808 ) regulator. REMEDY: change D-603 to a ( 2.4 volt , 1/2 watt diode) This should restore normal operation. {{{{ 357 - MAVERICK }}}

Super Star 3900 GHP

Can't help you there. It's most likely that you screwed the modulator up by extending the frequency range. I used to work for Galaxy and I know what happens to a radio when amateurs try to modify them (no offense). If you modify a high power radio such as your Super Star, you're bound to have modulation and SWR problems. In expert advice, never do amateur radio modifications to a high power radio. If you want a more versatile radio, get a Galaxy DX 2517 CB base station. The DX 2517 has PA/FM/AM/SSB/USB/LSB/CW modes, and bands A-F, and a frequency range from 25.615 to 29.205 MHz. The Galaxy DX 2517 has modifications that can be done right at the factory, they are optional however. The only thing I find annoying with the DX 2517 is that it's bulky, it leaves no room for any competition. When it was designed, the engineers left space saving out of the question.
Anyway, Good luck
and
Best Regards,
