What is the main difference between a dual core CPU, and a Core2 Duo CPU ?

A dual core processor has two cores (essentially, two CPUs on one chip). Core2Duo is a specific dual-core processor design. Thus, all Core2Duo CPUs are dual-core CPUs, but not all Intel dual-core CPUs are Core2Duo designs.

Essentially all current Intel consumer dual-core CPUs today are Core2Duo designs. They have different names, but vary mostly in terms of their FSB speed (mostly, how quickly data can be transferred to/from RAM) and in the amount of cache memory in the CPU (cache memory is a relatively small amount of high-speed memory on the CPU chip that stores frequently-used data and instructions; it can improve performance 4-15% or so, depending on the amount).Best Regards, Luis.

Max processor for upgrade?

Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-ansi-language:#0400; mso-fareast-language:#0400; mso-bidi-language:#0400;} Theoretically, it's support up to Core2Duo with 1066 Front Side Bus, but some source in Intel Website said that it's chipset (Intel946GZ) can afford until Core2Duo E7500 (1066FSB), to be honest, my L310 using E6300 which is have 1066mhz FSB. So I think it should be ok if run with higher Core2Duo, but I suggest to do bios firmware update before change your processor.

Uppgrade of a processor

The processor upgrade defends on your motherboard if it supports a processor like Core2Duo, because it all depedns on the motherboard if you can upgrade processor and RAM ,if you buy a new processor and its not supported by your motherboard it will be a wast, but if your computer manufacturer told you that your motherboard can supports a processor like Core2Duo go ahead upgrade to it , that will definitely make teh computer faster and better sicne Core2Duo is a high end processor right now..

Hope that helps...........

What is a safe temperature range for my E8400 core2duo

70 degrees is a tad high, I'd suggest buying an aftermarket heatsink or re-seating your current one.
