Try the following solutions.

1. Most certainly your computer is infected with Virus or Malware. The symptoms are there.I strongly recommend a good Anti Virus to be installed on your PC and it should be updated before scanning and cleaning you PC.
2. If the same situation persists uninstall the Yahoo messenger and get a Yahoo messenger of a different version from the internet. The latest being Yahoo version 11. You Yahoo messenger software on your Vista might be corrupt.
3. You need to get a good Registry cleaning software to clean the registry which might be corrupt or may have wrong or missing entries for Yahoo messenger.
   
4. If the problem still persists try repairing Vista which is final option. Insert the Windows Vista DVD in your DVD player and a splash screen will appear which will display a "Repair" option select it. If the splash screen does not appear insert the Vista DVD in the DVD player and restart your machine. Make sure you have selected your DVD drive on top priority on the computer BIOS setup. and when the message appears Press any key to boot from DVD. If you would like to restore the pc back to factory settings, I suggest you use your recovery disks that would have been received with the PC or you would have created as part of the setting up process. If you do not have these then you would have to buy the software online or via a software retailer. There is no place online that you can legitimately download for free.

Yes,this is very common on vista.Using your Vista or a friends Vista DVD,boot from it,do a startup up windows vista repair. You up and going again.

First, I want to make sure you understand Windows 7 is an operating system just like Vista is an operating system. When you install it, you will not be using Vista again. I also STRONGLY advise you not to install it over Vista, but rather as a clean install (freshly formatted harddrive). Installing over Vista has led to numerous problems.

Second, Microsoft has not released the final version of Windows 7 and when they do, they will expect you to pay for it. In the meantime, if you want to try it out, you can download the "release candidate" version and install it, but it will cease to operate beginning March 2010 and stop altogether in June 2010. This really should be for testing only.

If you want to have the permanent version, you can buy it (no downloads) at retail stores or online beginning in October.

Put in the Vista CD and restart your computer. Press F8 before Windows XP starts to load. Follow the steps to install Windows Vista. When it asks you, reformat your hardrive. WARNING: REFORMATING WILL ERASE ALL YOUR DATA, SO MAKE SURE YOU BACK UP YOUR IMPORTANT DATA BEFORE. You will then have a clean install of Vista which will allow your computer to run much faster. From there, you can restore/download your files that you backed up.
