My speedometer quit working last night, but is working again this morning. There are no warning lights on my dash. I noticed that the speedometer randomly jumps around. There is no consistency to it and it ends up correcting itself. Could this be a bad sensor?

VSS - vehicle speed sensor possible for the shifting an speedometer problem , don't know about PS . Are you referring power steering ? This would have noting too do with not shifting or speedometer not working .

Can be loose speedo wiring connectors under instrument panel or its issue with speed sensor on transmission.

These lights for the dash are controlled by a rheostat instrument control dimmer switch next to the main light switch for the headlights, it is either turned off (have seen this dozens of times) or it is defective. Below is a picture of the switch assembly I speak of. The thumb wheel next to the knob is the dimmer control.

Usually it's the opposite. The speedometer works and the odomater and trip meter go inop. Most likely the speedometer assembly is bad. If the odometer is working you have a signal from the gray and black wire .

try replacing the bulbs if nothing happens then you have a fault in the dashboard and need to get it fixed it shouldn't cost to much round about £50 to get it fixed :)
