How do I connect my laptop to a Monitor

Connecting an External Monitor or Data Projector
You can switch to an external monitor or data projector by two methods. 1. Connect the external monitor to the laptop's video port, power up the external monitor first and the laptop. The video information will automatically switch to the external monitor. 2. If you power up the laptop first then you can switch the video output to the external monitor by pressing the Fn key and one of the Function keys, depending upon your make and model laptop. You can also toggle between the external monitor or both LCD screen plus the external monitor or back to LCD screen only by pressing the Fn key plus one of the function key. Here is a list of key combinations for some of the laptops :- IBM ThinkPad = Fn + F7 HP and Compaq = Fn + F4 Toshiba = Fn + F5 Dell = Fn + F8

Cant seem to fine the sega mega drive2 on my tv

hi, if your plugging the sega mega drive into the airial socket ie same fitting as the arial then what you need to do is make sure its plugged into the arial socket properly now you need to switch it on with a game in wait for minute or so for the game to load up.
Then you need to put your telly onto a channel you dont use such as 7.
Then you need to use the telly remote and enter the setup mode once in this mode you need to use the setting that lets you scan for the telly channels.
Now depending on your telly this will either be an auto tune or manual or both if you can choose then pick the manual type.
Once this is selected you then need to choose witch way your going to tune ie up or down.

Make sure on the menu your tuning the channel you want ie 7 or what ever you want to use.
Now it dont matter witch way you start scanning so start the scanning then just keep going the one way then eventually you will get the screen tuned into the mega drive you then need to save this setting into the channel your using.

Right now you have done all that if by any chance on the lead from the megadrive to the tell it has a switch ok then try it with it in the on possition then scan all the way if after ages you get no picture then press the little switch and scan again.
But depending how old it is you may not have a switch dont worry if not as its less hassle to tune in as you havent got 2 choices.
So their is the instructions if it is an arial socket type connector.

If however it is the three color leads then plug these into the right colors on the telly then make sure you have a game in switch it on wait 1 min or so then get the telly control and find the source or maybe av button depending on your control is will be either of those 2 if it dont have them then look for a small picture on the control it will look like a square box with an arrow running from the right to left this is the av/source button.
Once you have found this button you may need to press it 3 or 4 times untill your on the right input ok then you should have it on(only these instructions if its color leads if not follow first instructions ok)

I know its a lot of info but youll get their in the end (that is if the lead from mega to telly isnt damaged) if after doing what i say you still get no picture then the chances are the lead is damaged and needs replacing but from what i can remember (back in the day) it was just a normal arial lead anyway so you should have one of these lying around.

Let me know how you get on or if you need further assistance ok

The A light is blinking but the laptop refuses to power up.

Laptop is dead. How to troubleshoot the problem.
In this post I’ll explain how to troubleshoot a dead laptop and find the problem. The following troubleshooting tips are not model and brand specific, they should work for most laptops.
Let’s take a look at two different scenarios.
Example 1. The laptop is absolutely dead.
When you plug in the power adapter and press on the power button, there is no signs of life at all. The laptop will not make usual noises, LEDs will not light up, the fan will not spin, the screen is blank and black, etc… In short, the laptop is dead.

What you can do in this case?
1. Make sure the wall outlet is working and the laptop DC adapter is getting power from the outlet. Try another wall outlet.
2. Test the laptop DC power adapter, make sure the voltage output is correct. You can test the DC power adapter with a voltmeter.
3. Let’s say the DC adapter is fine and the adapter outputs correct voltage. In this case unplug the power adapter from the laptop, remove the battery, wait for 1-2 minutes, plug in the adapter and try turning on the laptop again.

OK, you tested the adapter and it’s bad. If you decide to replace the original DC adapter with a generic one, you’ll have to follow this rule:
The voltage output on your new adapter has to be exactly the same as on the original adapter. The amperage on the new adapter could be the same or higher.

If nothing helps and the laptop is still dead, apparently the motherboard is fried or there is a problem with the DC power jack. It’s possible the DC power jack is broken and the motherboard is not getting any power from the adapter. In this case you’ll have to disassemble the laptop and replace the power jack.
Example 2. When you plug the DC power adapter and press on the power button, the laptop starts making normal noises, the LEDs work properly but noting appears on the screen. The laptop will not start.
First of all, take a closer look at the LCD screen. Look at the screen under bright light. It’s possible that the image is still on the screen but it’s very faint.
If there is no image on the laptop LCD screen, test the laptop with an external monitor. Connect an external monitor to the VGA port on your laptop and turn the laptop on. You can toggle video output between the internal LCD screen and external monitor by pressing Fn and F4 keys simultaneously on HP laptops, Fn and F5 keys on Toshiba laptops, Fn and F7 keys on IBM laptops. Other laptops may use different key combinations.
Let’s say the external monitor works fine but the internal LCD screen has no image at all. If that’s the case, your problem could be related to the LCD screen or the video cable. Also, make sure the video cable makes good connection with the motherboard and the LCD screen. Try reconnecting, reseating the cable.
In my case, both internal and external monitors were absolutely dead. Neither of them had image. That means the problem is not related to the LCD screen or the video cable. From my experience I know that this problem could be related to the laptop memory.
Try reseating the memory module, maybe it’s not making good connection with the memory slot. Try cleaning contacts on the memory module with pen eraser. Try moving the memory module into another slot. Try replacing the memory module with another known good module, it’s possible that your original module is dead.
If you have two memory modules installed you can try removing them one by one, it’s possible that one of the modules is bad. Try installing different memory modules into different memory slots.

In my case reseating, swapping the memory module didn’t help. I was pretty confident that my problem is not memory related and I moved on.
Try removing battery, hard drive and DVD drive and turning on the laptop without these components.
Also, try turning on the laptop with an external monitor when the video cable is unplugged from the motherboard. If the laptop start with video on the external monitor, apparently there is something wrong with the laptop display panel.
Finally, disassemble the laptop and removed the motherboard.
1. Motherboard. Like on most laptops, in my case the video card is integrated into the motherboard
2. CPU with heatsink and cooling fan.
3. Known good memory module.
4. The power button board witch you need to turn on the system.
5. Working DC power adapter.

Still cannot get any video on the external monitor. The system turns on, the cooling fan starts spinning but there is no video.
At this point I’m 95% sure that the motherboard is dead. CPU failures are not very common, so it must be bad motherboard.

2004 Chevy Silverado Z71, service 4X4 light comes on......

I've had this problem twice with my 2004 1500 Silverado Z71, approximately 65000 miles. The first time the Chevy dealer told me the switch was bad, but it always worked when I hit the button. They said it will probably just quit working one day. Well, that one day I was going about 60 mph and it automatically switched into 4 Low. Oops! Luckily nothing broke. The next day they put in a new switch for $150. A few months later the light came on again and I took it in right away. This time it was a bad encoder motor sensor. They replaced this for $350 and also put in a new switch just in case it was bad too.
