Question about MP3 & Digital Media Players

9 Answers

While I was running the upgrade for my 60 gig Creative Zen Vision W, it indicated that the upgrade failed. After that, my Zen, which had been working previously, was no longer recognized by my PC. When I turned it on, I got an error message "Hardware Problem." I disconnected and reconnected the battery and rebooted, with no change.

I have to take the battery out to shut it off; it won't power down otherwise. When I turn it back on while inserting the battery, it still gives me the "Hardware Problem" message, and doesn't go to any menu.

Try to install a new USB DRIVER or configure the add hardware tools on your control panel of your computer. if not,
format your mp3 to refresh your device. you should transfer the important files to your computer before getting formated. hope that helps!

  • Back up the contents of your player, if possible, as recovering your player may require it to be re-formatted.
  • Make sure your player battery is at least 50% charged.

    MP3 Recovery Tool Requirements
Before attempting to use the MP3 recovery Tool, please verify you have read
    the following requirements.

    • Ensure that you are using Windows XP® Service Pack 2
32-bit, Windows XP Professional x64 Edition or Windows Vista™ (32-bit
      or 64-bit version).

    • Back up the contents of your player, if possible, as recovering your player
may require it to be formatted.

    • Make sure your player's battery is at least 50% charged.

Ensure that you are using Windows XP® Service Pack 2 32-bit,
Windows XP Professional x64 Edition or Windows Vista™ (32-bit or 64-bit
    version).
There are various versions of the Microsoft Windows operating system. Depending
on the version you have, settings or applications on your computer may differ.
To check which version is on your computer:

    1. Click Start, and Run.

    2. In the text field, type winver, and then click OK.

The window that appears will show you which version of Windows installed on
your PC (1). If your operating system has a service pack installed, you will
see the service pack listed (2).

Back up the contents of your player, if possible, as
recovering your player may require it to be formatted.
In order to back up your player using Windows Media Player 11:

(1.) Open Windows Media Player 11.

(2.) Select your player on the left hand side. There will be a "*"
icon listed next to the name of the player.

(3.) Select one of the following categories: Artist, Album, Songs or Genre.

(4.) Drag each of the contents under the category you have selected to the
Sync List menu on the far right.

(5.) Click the Start Sync tab in the bottom of the Sync List to copy the files
    to your PC's hard drive.

Please be sure your player is charged to at least 50%.
(1.) Connect the player to a USB port on the back of a desktop PC, to a powered
hub, or to a power adapter (separately available).

(2.) Check the display for the charging icon.

    • As the display times out after a few seconds, press any button on the player
      to reactivate the display.

    • If the battery is fully depleted, the charging icon may not be displayed.
Check that the blue power LED (visible behind the Play/Pause or behind the
Power button depending on the player) is glowing on and off repeatedly. This
indicates that the player is successfully charging. After 1 hour of charging,
power on the unit to activate the display. The charging icon should be displayed.

(3.) Allow the player to charge for at least 6 hours. During this time, if
charging from a USB port, please ensure your PC does not enter a power conservation
mode (Standby, Sleep, or Hibernate) as this will interrupt charging

The internal software is possibly corrupt now, try another computer. if the problem persists you need to send it to creative to be fixed. the firmware can only be reloaded back into the machine at home if it is detected, if its not detected the firmware tools available at creative can't fix it.

Hi,

1.Disconnect the ZVW from the computer.
2. Turn off the ZVW.
3. Remove the battery.
4. Move and hold the power button to the power on position while re-inserting the battery.
5. Hold the Power button until the Recovery Mode menu appears.
6. Select the Format option from the menu.
7. When the format is completed, select Cleanup from the menu of options.
8. Then Restart the ZVW and see if it boots up normally."

Problem transferring MP3s to Zen Vision 30GB

I have a Zen Vision M 30G, and this is what worked for me.(Widows XP home Edition. First you're going to want to transfer all your files back to your PC to back them up. I've found that even though you can't transfer from your PC to Zen, you can transfer from Zen to PC. Connect your player, and after your Pc recognizes it go to My Computer>click on your player, it should show up as "storage media.">then you right click on it, then select "reformat." A warning should pop notifing that you will lose all you data. Click yes, It should take less than a minute to complete. So essentially you have just wiped your Mp3 player's hard drive clean. Now transfer all your backed up files back to your player.

Creative zen problems

You can try a firmware upgrade, but weird sounds are not good - indicate that a circuit diode has gone bad. Find out if you are still in-warranty, and replace the player.
