    Hi Steve,

Thanks for trying, but I gave up in frustration as it would not even
reformat again.... took it back to the store where I bought it and
exchanged it for a SATA HD (I'm going to buy a new computer shortly and
I will install this other hard drive in it.

This is the second large hard drive I have put in this one since March
and I feel that there may be something about this computer and large
    hard drives....

Thank you very much for trying to help me, I really do appreciate your time and effort.

    Regards,

    Ray

Don't worry about the size reported, 305GB is same as 320GB because 305GB = 305*1024*1024*1024 = 327491MB

Try deleting all partitions and reformatting (but do NOT choose Quick Format). Also try chkdisk /R C: to check for errors.

When i am going to boot my pc through usb (window 7 ultimate) it show disk read error.....

I can think of three likely problems and one unlikely problem.
1. Did you really burn the ISO image to the pen drive? Did you use software such as freeisoburner: http://www.freeisoburner.com/to burn the ISO to the drive or did you just copy the ISO to the drive? If you just copied it, then the computer can't read the files
2. The USB drive may be broken. Have you tried burning the ISO to another flash drive or disk?
3. The copy of windows you downloaded wasn't the whole thing and there are missing files that once again, the computer can't read or find
4. Your USB ports on the computer is broken.

Emachines T4010 won't start up, says image checksum, and that an image is corrupted

Receiving a bad image checksum error message when upgrading a computer to Windows XP means that a Windows system file such as user32.dll is damaged. This error occurs when any damaged system file is encountered that isn't overwritten during Setup. The repair process for this error involves voiding the damaged dynamic link library file from the DOS command line prompt and replacing it with a new copy from the Windows XP disk.

Insert a clean Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (ME) or Microsoft Windows 98 Edition startup disk into the computer, and hold the reset button on the front of the computer until the system commences rebooting. Navigate the Windows startup menu with the keyboard's directional keys and select 'Start Computer with CD-ROM Support'. Hit "Enter" to continue. Write down your CD-ROM's drive letter on a piece of paper. At the command prompt, type "Drive:" without quotes (Drive should be replaced with the drive letter on which Windows is installed), and press "Enter." Type "cd windows\system32" without quotes, and press "Enter." Type "ren user32.dll user32.old" without quotes and again press "Enter." This renames your damaged user32.dll file so it is not recognized by the system, but still physically exists as a backup if needed in the future. Eject the Windows ME or 98 disk, and insert the Windows XP disk. At the command prompt, type "extract CDROMDrive:\i386\user32.dl_ Drive:\windows\system32\user32.dll" without quotes, replacing CDROMDrive with the CD-ROM's drive letter that you made a note of earlier, and replacing Drive with the system's drive letter on which Windows is installed. Hit "Enter" to execute the command. This process extracts a new copy of the user32.dll file to your hard disk, from the Windows XP CD. The new file will be found in the Windows/System32 directory. Restart the system by holding the reset button on the front of the tower until reboot commences.

Good morning. I have installed in my Company a Iomega nas model 450R. This morning after a rebootit seems it can't find the boot disk and the nas asks for a operating system restore or go back to factory...

Hook the hdd up to another pc via a usb adapter & then ethier use Acronis or other imaging software to make an exact image file of the drive. You can save this file for later use if something goes wrong. If no such software is available, then make a new folder on the pc you have it hooked up to & manually save each file. Atleast then you have all the critical stuff, the operating system will have to be re-installed on the 450 if you lose it.

DVRs, not sure at the moment about the one you have, are limited with the brands and size hard drives it is able to accommodate. I'll advise you to check the manual you have with the DVR to see the brands and sizes that it can accommodate.

To clone a disc , acronis true image home is a very good software . A free software based on it is available from seagate called as disc wizard but it will only work with seagate drives. about hard drive not being detected , try upgrading your bios . Some bios dont detect new higher capacity harddrives. Do tell what is your drive capacity.

Ntldr error on ibm intellistation z pro w/ xp pro

During the XP install, you will be given the chance to set up partitions on the drive. Blow them all out. Completely. Then recreate the partition and let XP install. I expect this will solve the nt loader issue. If, however, it does not, then use the recovery approach below to get the required loader files onto your boot partition.

  1. Insert the Windows XP bootable CD into the computer.
  2. When prompted to press any key to boot from the CD, press any key.
  3. Once in the Windows XP setup menu press the "R" key to repair Windows.
  4. Log into your Windows installation by pressing the "1" key and pressing enter.
  5. You will then be prompted for your administrator password, enter that password.
  6. Copy the below two files to the root directory of the primary hard disk. In the below example we are copying these files from the CD-ROM drive letter, which in this case is "d." This letter may be different on your computer.

    copy d:\i386\ntldr c:\
    copy d:\i386\ntdetect.com c:\

  7. Once both of these files have been successfully copied, remove the CD from the computer and reboot.

you probably will not like my solution but my problem was only a mini external drive with about 20 files. I opened each file and <save> to another drive. For me it was easy, I saved to my HD. Then open Disk Utility and <erase> my mini drive, which remformatted me a clean and usable drive. Then just copied the files I saved and DONE.
