Question about Dell Latitude D600 Notebook

Overheating? I am running Window XP Professional. While using my laptop this morning, everything just froze and I had to manually turn it off. Since then, booting up seems to be a problem. It will either boot up part way and freeze, or it will not start to boot up at all (the Caps On light blinks)

This generally caused by a bad battery or memory chip. Start by removing the battery and starting on AC only. Then remove the memory and try one chip at a time in each slot. This can also be caused by a hard drive failure, but most often it's the other two. The blinking light will most likely blink a certain number of times, indicating an error code. Go to Dell's support site, and find the diagnostic codes list for your machine, there is a list for each of Dell's machines, and the list has both light an sound (beep) error codes. This could tell you exactly what the problem is, however, some are vague, but will point you in the right/general direction.

This is usually CPU overheating (loose heatsink?).
To be sure it is not your XP, boot from the recovery CD and see if it will stay running for a while.
Check memory modules are in OK and not loose in sockets.
Otherwise, you will need to check the CPU+Heatsink and CPU fan.
If you put it in a cold place overnight and when you switch it on next morning it gets much further, then it sounds like overheating problem due to heatsink or fan.

Good Afternoon Friend,

I understand the Hi Temperature alarm was going off on your Frigidaire refrigerator, model# FFUS2613LP, and the temperature was room temperature. I also see that you pulled out your appliance and cleaned everything, including the compressor and coils. You turned your refrigerator back on and it froze a cup of water before you went to bed. However, when you woke this morning, your refrigerator was back at room temperature. I suggest contacting your local authorized technician for further assistance. They will be able to diagnose your appliance and determine why it keeps warming to room temperature. Hope this is helpful.

-Best Regards-

You may not be able to. Windows CE is a very small Windows operating system. That is, there are just basic components used to run your laptop.

From the website PDF manual:
To install and run Nokia PC Suite:

At least 300 MB of free disk space
- One of the following operating systems:
- Windows 7 32-bit and 64-bit editions
- Windows Vista 32-bit and 64-bit editions (Service Pack 1)
- Windows XP Professional x64 edition (Service Pack 2)
- Windows XP (Professional or Home Edition) (Service Pack 2 or later)
- Administrator rights to the PC to install software on it
Note: To transfer music between your phone and a PC using USB cable connection in the Media Transfer mode, you need to have Windows Media Player 10 (or newer) installed on your PC. Windows Media Player includes an MTP driver, which is required for transferring music in the Media Transfer mode.

Make sure the cooling fan for the laptop is not obstructed in any way or is not dirty. It's pretty common for a laptop to get plugged with dirt from normal use. Get a can of air and blow the machine out to remove dirt, lint or debris.

You could also have a defective battery, but try cleaning the machine first.

I've heard a lot about freezing problems on toshiba as well as others like this. Most common issues are one of two things. One is a damaged RAM module. The second is one of the video card chip sets have fried or are slightly overheating causing the laptop to shut down. Most common with Nvidea and ATI Radeon series graphics cards.

Hi Sanjeev,

Just about a month back I purchased a Lenovo laptop having Intel Core i3 processor loaded with DOS.

I then installed Windows XP SP3 32-bit and there is absolutely no problem whatsoever with the compatibilty. Also, all the device drivers for Windows XP are available on Lenovo support website.

So, there should be no problem to install and run Windows XP on this laptop.

Wish you all the best. Thanks for using FixYa.

Sony viao notebook will not turn off, will not open programs either

Your laptop may be frozen. If you have it plugged up in the wall, unplug it from the wall and the back of the laptop. Let the battery run out and the computer will go off. Then try turning it back on, do the same thing you did the morning it froze, then try turning it off. If that doesn't work, then you might need to get it check at a repair shop.

Overheating problem, with fan stopping randomly

If it's overheating it's possible that either there's a problem with the fan, or the fan/heatsink is clogged with dust. If you know how to open up the laptop you can do that and use a can of compressed air to clean it out which may solve the problem. If not you'll have to replace the fan.
