My Nikon D70's arrow button will not work. I cannot move it when I press menu to select different options from the menu. I also cannot move it to focus on objects. Has anyone ever had this problem, can you help me?

Check if the slide below the "joystick" on the back is not in the "L" lock position. Keep it in the upward dot setting. If that's not the problem, it'll need to be serviced.

Is there a self timer option on the D70?

Hi David,
The D70 has a setting on the timer, and the explanation can also be found in your manual on page 105.
Steps:
1. go to your "Custom Setting" menu (looks like a pencil) and go down to item 24, "Self-Timer." Select the number of seconds delay you desire.

2. Press the "Format" button and rotate the main dial until you see a small clock symbol on the Control Panel.

3. The camera is now ready for delayed shutter. Don't forget to set the "Format" back to S for single shooting afterwards.

Hope this helps,

Andrew

My nikon d70 says that file does not contain image data

Hi,
If the memory card came from a different camera and inserted into the Nikon D70, the error message will appear. Just format the memory card with the D70 and the error should disappear.
Hope this helps.

Camera will not power up changed battery just went dead Nikon D70

Fixing a Dead Nikon D70 - Green Blinking Light My first-generation Nikon D70, which I bought the day it was released to the market a few years back, died on me a few months ago. Without a card in it, it won't start, and when you insert a CF card in the slot, the green data-access indicator flashes on and off. If I hold down the Menu button, the menu flashes on and off along with the green LED.
d70_87x1.jpgAs it turns out, this is a known problem with the original Nikon D70 cameras, and Nikon USA has a service bulletin out on the camera body. They'll repair it free of charge.
So, if you have the same problem, visit this service bulletin page, http://nikonusa.com/Service-And-Support/Service-Advisories/D70-Service-Advisory.page click on the D70, and you can access a PDF file that you'll need to print, fill out and send to Nikon along with your camera body. Be sure to take your camera strap off and remove the battery, and don't send any lenses or other accessories.
Mine's on it's way to Nikon now - they say the turnaround is five days (plus shipping time).

Nikon D70 flash doenot fire

According to my information, the camera may need a new flash PCB (printed circuit board). Check the repair service search on this site for someone in your area. The part number for the circuit board is: 1S014-020-1 and runs about 50$

The higher the ISO setting the more grain in the photo. Have you somehow set the ISO to say, 1600? http://www.nikondigitutor.com/eng/d70s/select.php?menu=1&sub=b11&num=12 Select ISO setting this way: http://www.nikondigitutor.com/eng/d70s/select.php?menu=1&sub=b05&num=10 Are you shooting in low-light situations (typically indoor)? Try shooting bright scenes and Auto mode, or manually set ISO to 100 or 200 and see if noise persists.

Crash

The D70 has a reset button at the bottom of the camera. Firts of all, I think you have checked you have the correct lens inserted (at least D mount) and well done, checked your memory card is correctly inserted, and if you have another, change it.Checked the battery. Looked the AF modes on the body. If everything is OK, then press the reset button. If you have no answer, then take the camera to the T. Service.

D70 USB setting issue

Users of Windows 98SE, Windows ME, Windows 2000 and Mac OS 9.x may experience problems trying to download images from the Nikon D70 using Nikon View. Initial shipments of the D70 have the USB option in the "Set up" menu set to PTP - Picture Transfer Protocol. PTP is only compatible for downloading images with Windows XP and Mac OS X. To solve this issue please set the USB menu option to Mass Storage and then connect the camera to the computer. The D70's card will then mount like a removable disk and Nikon View will be able to transfer images
