Question about Maytag MSD2732GR Side by Side Refrigerator

Ice buildup at bottom of freezer and small puddle.

I have been getting a small puddle on the freezer side in the front of my fridge about once every couple days. I shut off the water supply thinking that was the problem but it still persists. Also Ice is building up at the bottom of the freezer. Not sure if they may be related.

You need to unplug it and let the ice melt or pour hot water and place a pan underneath if the bottom tray is stuck.

Then remove the inside freezer plastic cover with a couple 1/4" screws. Use a ratchet or a screwdriver sized for these.

The bottom tray has to be out for the cover to slide down and out the bottom. There is another screw holding the drain pan and it can be rotated up and wiggled out.

Once you get the metal pan out you'll see the drain hole.

I used a little baby bulb to try and first **** out the drain and then to blow through it. You don't want to push anything deeper that can come out easier from the top.

I also took a pipe cleaner like the ones kids bend up for crafts.

You can get these at a liquor store or craft shop.

I'd use the bigger ones if you can get them.

Coat it with a little dish soap or similar and jiggle it in the opening until you clear out the drain. Then follow up with some more hot water.

I use the coffee maker with nothing in the tray to get instant hot water. The stuff from the tap is probably not hot enough.

This will fix your problem...too late for me though.

I put this off and the ice went all the way up the condenser and over the wiring. I think it shorted it out since the fan doesn't run and there are no signs of life.

This is a known problem, as well as the bad compressor with all that clicking and buzzing. I'm sure you already had that replaced since you made it this far.

Maytag is junk. Renew your warranty or sell it in the classifieds before you have a real problem!

The problem with your refrigertor is that the defrost drain is plugged up. After you get the ice buildup out of the freezer section you will have to locate the drain system. It is in the back of the freezer at the very bottom. It needs to be cleaned out. Hope this at least leads you in the right direction.

Ice buildup in bottom of freezer--puddle of water on floor

this sounds like your freezer is operating properly, except that the drainage of the water when going through the defrosting mode is not draining properly, pooling on the bottom of the freezer and then freezing. Check the drainage hose for the defrost in the lower pan. I would remove everything, place in ice chest, let the unit completely thaw out and then inspect. I hope this is beneficial.

My Fridgidaire Professional series refrigerator has a puddle of water in front of it about once every other day. The puddle is around the front on the freezer side of the fridge. What can I do to fix this?

Drain line in the freezer section is clogged, needs cleaning. There is a small drain pan on the bottom of the rear wall in the freezer. It is covered with ice. Defrost or remove ice, and get to the drain hole. try flushing with hot water, if does not help - clean mechanically on both sides of the drain line - in the freezer and in the back of the fridge, where it comes to the drain pan near condenser/compressor.

Here I am going to give you a lot of information. Because of the leaking your defrost condensate drain is most likely the reason. All on the page below may not be for your situation and some refrigerators do this over a period of time and the the water has no were to go but the freezer during defrost. Water puddling in bottom of freezer and freezing

the drain in the back of the freezer is probably full of ice. you need to pull out panel and use heat from a blow dryer to unplug the drain. then take a small gauge copper wire long enough to extend into the drain a couple of inches and loop it around the black heating element then when it goes yhrough defrost it should keep this from reaccuring

Ice buildup at bottom of freezer and small puddle.

Freezer has a drain in the back under the cooling coil. Melt Ice from drain area with a hair dryer, check drain and clear, under bottom in back behind a removable panel you will find the drain exit from the freezer going into the drain pan. This drain line has a loop for air seal, make sure it is cleared.

'ice dam' on bottom of freezer, now problems with fluctuating temps

Kat, you only have 1 problem happening. And no this is not due to the original repair. (though I have to admit... replacing the filter/drier, starter and compressor is NOT part of routine maintenance and has me a little befuddled.) Your evaporator drain is plugged. Most likely with what we in the biz call "bio-gookus". This is normal, but must be cleared to keep the water from puddling and coming out your freezer door. With the evap panel removed and the drain hole exposed, pour 1/4 cup of HOT water into the drain hole. Use a small screwdriver or other small instrument to pick out the ice buildup. Once this is clear, use something like this http://www.azpartsmaster.com/shopazp/Gallo+Condensate+Blowout+Guns+(A66800).html to blow out the rest of the lines. After doing this, pour more hot water into the drain to verify free flow. This will take care of your leak problem. Now... the frost buildup. NEVER RUN YOUR FRIDGE WITH THE PANELS OFF! They are there for a reason, believe it or not. They direct air flow across the coils (both evaporative and condensing). Frost buildup is normal, though you may be experiencing higher levels of frost because of the panel missing...Your fridge utilizes an automatic defrost system. It'll initiate every 8 hours. This is controlled by a timer located in your fresh food section. The defrost heater RARELY fails on these. Fix the evaporator drain and replace all panels. This will solve your dilemma.
