How To Fix You Camera's "Card Error" or "Card Not Initialized" Message

When you recieve a "Card Error" or "Card Not Initialized" message, this indicates that your memory may be temporarily corrupted. This can be due to not formatting your memory card on a consistent basis. Most consumers will use the "delete all" feature and continue to take pictures. By doing this, the file format of the card may become unstable.

We recommend formatting your memory card in your camera after saving the images from your previous shooting session. Once a memory card is formatted, the images will not be recoverable.

If this doesn't fix the Card Error, try replacing your batteries with a new, fresh pair of batteries. Also, if you haven't tried already, replace the memory card with a known working card and see if this fixes your error.

Can photos be retrieved once the SD card has been formatted? i had selected the "protect option" & those photos still were deleted.

I had success with this
1. Do not save any new file to memory card.
2. Connect your card to computer. You should see memory card shown as a drive letter (like H:) in My Computer.
3. Download photo recovery software, recommended one is 001 picture recovery (simply because i was using it and it worked)
http://www.001-software.com/picture-recovery/
4. Install and open the photo recovery program, select your memory drive, and click 'Start' button to start scanning process which will find your deleted photos.

When I use my camera it just says "memory card full" even though I deleted all the pictures/video on the card. I did research and found I should reformat my memory card but when I try to use my...

Use the memory card on your PC card reader and check the properties, if the card can be formatted then do so after removing all the files/pictures.
Now try this on the camera, if another card works well with the camera the card is faulty , if not there are issues with the interface within the camera and must be probed .

My Scandisk Ultra 2GB shows pictures on laptop, yet not on camera...the pictures are on the card. I did download them on my computer, removed them from the card, zoomed, cropped etc on Windows, then...

It is possible that when you edited the pictures on your computer, that you might have changed the file format when you resaved them.

Check the names of your picture files on the computer and compares the endings (.JPG or .BMP or whatever) between new pictures that come directly from your camera and pictures that you have edited and resaved.

If the formats are different at all, then your camera will probably not be able to read them. Cameras usually save pictures in one specific format and can only read them if they are in exactly that format. A computer on the other hand is much more flexible and can usually read or save pictures in many different formats.

Your computer should give you the option of saving a picture file in a different format if you want. When you edit and save the pictures on your computer next time, use the SAVE AS feature, this should give you the option of changing the name of the file as well as the file extension from a drop down list. Then just try saving the picture files in different formats until you find the one that your camera can read. Or just look in your cameras Owner's Manual and find out exactly what format the pictures need to be in for the camera to recognize and display them from a memory card.

Good luck.

When i switch on my camera it shows "memory card

There is possible two things that are preventing you from using the memory card first there is a small switch on the side of the SD card I'm providing a diagram to show you. Make sure the little switch is in the correct position.

Next and most probably the main thing is the memory card needs to be formatted to the camera it is being used in. Formatting some times called initializing prepares the memory card surface to receive camera data and picture files. Formatting should be done each time a new memory card is going to be used in a camera and after each time the picture files are downloaded to the computer.

If you have been using this card and only deleting the picture files what has happened is that there is a small file left on the card each time you delete after a time these little files clog the memory card to a point the card can not receive any new data. Formatting is the way to clear off all this impertinent data and start fresh.

Cheers have fun with your camera.

It wont let me take any pictures even though i bought a new card it still shows app.5or 6 pics but wont take any more It just keeps reading internal memory is full

This kind of problem is mostly associated with cards that have been used previously or that have had some sort of formatting before.
The problem you are encountering is this, the card is full with system files that are mostly hidden. Majority of these files are usually log files that keep a record of all the activities the card might have undergone since it began usage.
The only thing you can do to solve this problem is to format the card suing your computer. Formatting the card would help you get rid of previously existing log files and would free up space for new pictures to be stored.
If this doesn't solve your problem, then you may be having a faulty card.
On the issue of having full internal memory, if you have the option to format your internal memory, go ahead.
If you don't change the default save location to the memory card if one is available.
Let me know if you need any assistance with formatting your card.

When I attempt to take new picture, window indicates internal memory is full and prevents further use.

Format the memory card.
Formatting, deletes all images from a memory card, even the ones that may have been protected. It recreates the file system including new directories and folders where images are saved on the card
