has anyone figured out how to fix this problem, other than hitting the camera on a hard object?

  • davidm908 Apr 18, 2009

Same deal, my wife's pretty pink 7.2 Sony that lasted for about 6 months. There was no apparent dropping, it just started and is now useless.

Hard to believe but I had same problem, gave it a good rap on a pad of paper and it works. So I went and got my Cannon PowerShot that was totally dead and gave that a good rap and now that works perfect. Hard to believe but true

I had the same problem, the lens wouldn't come out and then I tried hitting the camera a few times on my mouse pad (on the right hand end, if your looking at the camera) and the lens bloody opened!!!

So happy as I'm travelling and couldn't afford to buy a new camera. Problem could be sand related. Sound really gritty when the lens does open now but it works fine now.

WOW! I just posted this question - sorry didn't see this first - and tried the "bang on a hard object solution". I can't believe this worked! I was in Tahiti for 8 nights and it stopped working on my last night there (thankfully). I was ready to get a new camera, but for now, I don't have to. Thanks, everyone!

When I turn on my Sony Cybershot DSCS950, I get this message: "Turn the Power off and on again." Is this something manageable, or does my camera have a terminal problem?

Hi Unfortunately not, it has lens unit defective. You can bring to local repair shop and they will charge around $45 to 95 depend on what they really want to charge. Thanks and best regard!

Turn the power on and off again

I fixed this issue with my Sony Cybershot by gently (carefully) hitting the camera 3 times against a carpeted bench with the lens retracted and the camera turned off. It seems the lens gears were stuck. Now the camera works fine again.

DSC-W50 sony cybershot

I had the same problem with my DSC-W55. I actually just called the customer service number on the sony website and they told me how to solve the problem.

- Take your battery out
- Press and hold the power button for 60 seconds
- Re enter your battery
- Voila.. it should work when you turn it on. Mine did.

PLEASE HELP!

There is a problem inside the camera with the wire harness/cable connection to the screen. They are know to come loose over time. If you tap rather briskly on the front of the camera right on the word Cybershot it should reconnect it. Worked on mine but you may need to do it now & again. The altenative is to have the camera dismantled and the connector pushed back onto the screen.

Now a couple months later I have a different problem, it says to turn the power on and off again when I turn it on to take pictures.
