Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

Some software in windows might be accessing the drive in background, use a software like USB unlocker so that you can close the software trying to access your drive.

My WD My Book 500gb is connected, light is on, it shows in Device Manager, but not in My Computer, so I cannot access the drive... help!!

Go to "My Computer" Right click and select "manage devices" Go to "drive manager" and you should see a list of drives (C: D: etc.) You may be prompted right away to "initialize" a new hard drive. You may have to do that to this drive for it to work. DO NOT format the drive if prompted. that will destroy any and all data on the drive. Once it is initialized for your computer; it should generate a new drive letter. If it doesn't, you can right click the bar; and give it a drive letter. See photo for example: jdavies255_1.png

Replacing HDD's on WD MyBook World II won't format

I was attempting something similiar -- replacing my World Edition II 500GB drives with 1TB drives. My research unearthed two things... These units will only work with Western Digital Caviar Green drives. The blue ring won't light if other drives are installed. I also read (in a couple spots) that the unit's O/S is stored on the hard drive (as opposed to be stored in Flash memory). If this is true, you would need to image the old drive to the new (using a tool like Ghost or True Image), and increase the partition size as part of the imaging process. I don't know if this would work, as I opted to not proceed with the upgrade. For me, the new version of the World Edition II (WDH2NC20000 and WDH2NC40000) turned out to be a better option than upgrading. These units provdide the extra space and are MUCH faster than the old ones.

WD Hard Drive Not Detecting

Yes, this can be done via the user web interface, by typing in mybookworld or wdstorage into the web browser and the shared storage manager should come up. If you go to general setup there should be an option to update network settings.
