Question about HP Compaq dc7100 PC Desktop

BIOS SYSTEM IS CORRUPTED!

I cant perform Biosflash whatsoever,not from USB, diskette or Cd, tells me it is corrupted hence i cant adjust any settings in setup or even load defaults and save, tried everything in vain am frustrated, should I get another motherboard, WHAT COULD HAVE CAUSED ALL THIS? MY NAME IS LABAN SHIKUKU

Hi i'm Rain.
Ye it sounds like you BIOS is corrupted. If your unable to get to DESKTOP to save anything you may have lost it all . you could replace the harddrive and save the old one to see if you can have the data pulled from it. Reinstall Windows . Windows has the correct bios settings . This will correct your problem . If the time and date will not stay set you may need to replace your CMOS battery.

There will be a small yellow colour CMOS Button nearby the RTC battery on the motherboard.

Try pressing that button for 30sec after removing the power cable from the Power Supply Unit(PSU).

Try powering on the system and chk.

If it doesnt rectify the issue, purchase a new motherboard

Computer is booting from a non-bootable source. Computer hard disk drive is not properly setup in BIOS. Corrupt NTLDR and NTDETECT.COM file. Misconfiguration with the boot.ini file. Attempting to upgrade from a Windows 95, 98, or ME computer that is using FAT.32 New hard disk drive being added. Corrupt boot sector / master boot record. Seriously corrupted version of Windows 2000 or Windows XP. Loose or Faulty IDE/EIDE hard disk drive cable. Failing to enable USB keyboard support in the BIOS. Many times this error is caused when the computer is attempting to boot from a non-bootable floppy disk or CD ROM First verify that no Floppy Diskette or CD is in the computer, unless you are attempting to boot from a diskette. b> Note: This error has also been known to occur when a memory stick is in a card reader and the computer is attempting to boot from it. My computer lost ( ntlpd is missing) plus said press ctrl alt del it's not coming up.


Sounds like you've got some corrupted files. If you have your Windows disc, try a reinstall/repair or try to drop back to a previous restore point.

If those don't work, you might try to reformat/re-install your software. (backup your data if you can beforehand as reformatting will wipe all data from the drive).

This can even be a hardware problem, like the HD controller bad, which caused the file problem in the first place. Or a virus can cause such issues, which would make reformatting/reinstalling a good idea as well.

Make sure you have a defragment task running every month, if not every week. You can schedule to run at night or during the day, whenever you're not at the computer. If you turn it off when you're not using it, just leave it on that one day (or night) that the defragment needs to run... or start it manually before you go to sleep and unless it's a large drive, it should be done when you get up.

Press F2 to enter the system setup. Someone or something (Bad Motherboard battery most likely) has reset the BIOS defaults, which includes the Floppy diskette drive controller to be ON. Set Diskette Drive to NONE, then under integrated Devices, set diskette controller to off, save settings and reboot
(ALT + B)

if issue re-occurs then the watch battery on motherboard is bad and needs to be replaced

It means that your diskette drive is enable in BIOS it normally happens when you restore the default settings of your BIOS.
You have to boot to safe mode by pressing F2 in most computers or Del key.
If you dont have any diskette drive then disable the Diskette Drive or Floppy disk then press F10 to safe then restart.

If the system has a floppy drive, take the diskette out.
If the system has no floppy disk drive (Most Likely) boot to the BIOS and turn off the diskette controller and make sure diskette options are set to NONE. It appears you reset the BIOS defaults, and the Diskette controller is on by default.

This issue can be caused by any of the below reasons.

-Corrupt boot files on the computer.
-Settings for hard disk drive are not correct.
-Floppy diskette or CD in computer causing issue.
-Boot devices not set properly.
-BIOS corrupt or misc. setting not set properly.
-Connections loose or disconnected.
-Bad Hard disk drive or other bad hardware.

Solution:


Corrupt boot files on the computer

If the computer has no bootable files on the drive it is attempting to boot from it is possible that the computer may halt at " verifying dmi pool data..."

To resolve this issue:

Boot from a bootable floppy diskette. Ensure that this diskette was made on the same Microsoft Windows operating system that is installed on your computer.

Once at the A:\> prompt type "sys c:" and press enter. This should report the message "File system transferred." Once transferred remove the diskette and reboot the computer.

If the computer continues to not boot attempt to re-create the master boot record by booting from the bootable floppy diskette again. Once at the A:\> prompt type "fdisk /mbr" and press enter. This should return you to the prompt without giving you any message. Once at the prompt remove the diskette and reboot the computer.

Note: The above information only applies to Microsoft Windows users. If you are running a Linux / Unix variant or other operating system such as OS/2 and the computer is freezing at this DMI message ensure that Linux / Unix has been properly installed first and/or your boot manger is not corrupt.

Settings for hard disk drive are not correct

The computer freezing at "Verifying dmi pool data..." may be caused when the hard disk drive settings within CMOS are not set properly. Enter CMOS and verify that the hard disk drive settings are set properly and/or that it is set to Auto Detect.

Floppy diskette or CD in computer causing issue

Verify no floppy diskette or CD is in the computer. In some cases the computer may be trying to boot from either of these drives causing issues with the boot sequence.

Boot devices not set properly

The computer stopping at " verifying dmi pool data..." can be caused when the boot devices on your computer are not set properly in CMOS. First, verify that no CD or diskette is in your computer. If a CD or diskette is in the computer attempt to remove this first to determine if it was attempting to boot from it.

If No CD or diskette is in the computer and your computer still halts at the DMI message enter CMOS setup and verify that the boot options are set properly. We commonly recommend that the floppy be set the first boot device, hard drive as the second boot device and the CD-ROM as the third boot device.

BIOS corrupt or misc. setting not set properly

If none of the above recommendations have resolved your issue attempt to reset the BIOS / CMOS settings to the factory or default settings.

Connections loose or disconnected

If the computer has been recently moved or new hardware has been installed in the computer it is possible that a connection may be loose or even disconnected. Verify that the hard disk drive, floppy and CD-ROM cables are properly connected.

Bad hard disk drive or other bad hardware

If you computer continues to freeze at the DMI message after attempting all of the above recommendations it is possible that the computer may be freezing because of a bad hard disk drive or other bad hardware in the computer.

Before replacing any hardware we first recommend you attempt to erase everything on the hard drive and start over.

If you're unable to get to the point of re-installing the operating system it's likely your computer has a hardware issue and it's suggested that the hard drive be replaced. If that doesn't resolve the issue then have the motherboard replaced.

Misplaced rompaq diskette


You probably need to change the boot order in the bios to make the computer boot from the cd rom before any local hard drives.

F2 is usually used to access the BIOS, you have to press it immeadiately upon seeing the first screen, which usually displays the name of the manufacturer, and from there you have to find the section to change the boot order.

Computer won't reboot


Check your BIOS settings, specifically the diskette drive setting. Next, check the cabling to the drive itself. Your problem may have nothing to do with the diskette drive, but check it out. Next, have someone download hard drive diagnostics for the brand of drive in the machine. You could have errors on the drive, and a diagnostic program may locate, repair them. The startup disks, these do a full system restore, reinstall of the operating system? The machine will boot from the first startup disk and begin the reload process?
