Question about Protron PD-DVR100 DVD Recorder

1 Answer

PD DVR100 Apparently you were not able to see my other postings of diagrams and directions in your original post hence you post "Still waiting." on Aug 08, 2008. Nonetheless, I copied them and re-posted them below. Comment by Benimur, posted on Aug 06, 2008 On your last post "which of the "Video Out", please refer to below diagram. In case you may have need for, below is the diagram for the Go Video to the Protron. Cheers.

    Hi again,

    If you did, for some reason I did not receive it nor was I notified that you responded.

    Ok, lets try it this way, wire according to the above diagram.

    • Power OFF on the GO Video, power ON on both the Toshiba TV and Protron DVD R. Play a movie DVD on the Protron;

    • On the TV Remote, press TV/VCR to select TV/VCR mode;

    • press INPUT SELECT once to select LINE 1 which will appear on the screen. You should now be able to watch the DVD movie;

    • If not, pls double check your connection from the OUTPUT of the Protron to the LINE1 IN of the Toshiba at the back.

    • If yes, the Protron is wired correctly to the Toshiba.
    Now to the Sanyo VCR:

    • STOP/EJECT the DVD, maintain POWER ON on both TV and Protron, maintain LINE 1 setting on Toshiba;

    • Verify that the Sanyo OUTPUT is wired according to the diagram to the INPUT 1 of the Protron;

    • Power ON the Sanyo and play a known good VHS tape;

    • Press the INPUT button on the remote for the Protron twice;

    • Protron should now be on AV1;

    • movie on VHS tape would now be displayed.
    Basically, that's about it. If you want to record the VHS tape being played on the Sanyo to a blank DVD on the Protron:

    • ensure that there is an acceptable/appropriate blank DVD in the Protron;

    • the system is wired as stated before and the settings of the individual machines are as before;

    • press RECORD button on the Protron remote.
    Would look forward to your reply preferably on your original post here.

    Only the red and white are interchangeable (L & R for audio), the yellow must go to the yellow it is for video.

    Your post on Aug 9 "I tried both Line 1 and Line 2 on the Protron. With Line 1 I got
    nothing. With Line 2 I still only get a garbled pictore on the TV and
    when I try to play a DVD I get sound but no picture

    The Line 1 and Line 2 on the Protron are inputs and therefore should go to the outputs of the Sanyo. There is only one (1) RCA composite video output on the Protron. It is above the S-video connector in the "VIDEO OUT" section. Pls do not use the Y/G, Pb/B nor the Pr/R. In the below image, it is colored yellow.

    Your original posting was "Need help in copying VHS to CD. When I start the TV playing the VHS I try to record to CD and all it does is record what's playing on Channel 3 and not what is playing from the VHS tape"

    As per our Live Session, it has been decided to use the GO Video Double Deck VCR rather than the Sanyo since the Sanyo was in another room tied to the other Toshiba TV.

    My thinking is now GO Video to Protron DVD R to Toshiba TV.

    Therefore I was surprised to learn that the Sanyo is now connected to the Protron likewise.

    At this point, may I confirm what are the devices that you want to interconnected, in which Toshiba and for what purpose.

    • Sanyo - will record TV channels to be watched in Toshiba 1

    • GO Video - will record TV channels to be watched in Toshiba 2;

    • Protron - to record in CD/DVD VHS movies from GO Video VHS tapes to be watched in Toshiba 2

    Cable IN > GoVideo RF IN (FROM ANT) - RF OUT (TO TV) > Protron RF IN - RF OUT (UHF/VHF) > Toshiba RF IN (UHF/VHF)

    Toshiba AUDIO (L/R)/VIDEO IN (LINE IN 1) < Protron AUDIO OUT (L/R) + VIDEO OUT (Video)

    Protron IN
    1 (
    R---Audio---L)/Video (SOURCE
    ) < GoVideo LINE OUT 1 (L/R)
    Video is always yellow; right audio is always red and left audio is always white whether for IN or OUT.
    There will be no OUTput from the Toshiba that will be used, it is the end user; other than the RF IN, the GoVideo will not have any INputs, it is a supplier; the Protron is a processor (recorder) hence it will have both INputs (from the GoVideo) and OUTputs (to the Toshiba TV).

    There is no reason to use the Y/G, Pb/B nor the Pr/R connectors of the Protron. They are meant to be used to component video which I believe the Toshiba TV does not have.

    My compliments and am glad that they are now operational.

    If I may suggest, use a VHS tape rewinder/forwarder. Use this on your old tapes to exercise them, full forward, full rewind. The idea is to ensure that the tape is not sticking and to loosen any dust or dirt inside. Thereafter, it maybe a good idea to use a vacuum cleaner on the the two spools underneath the tape to draw out the dust.

I thought I sent you an email two days ago that I have plugged in according to these diagrams and it still will not work. When I input Line 1 or Line 2, it does not "see" the Protron. In spite of this, I started the GoVideo playing a tape, and pressed the Record on the Protron, and what it recorded I do not know, as I was not successful in obtaining Disk Edit.
Maybe I should try to go from the TV through the GoVideo to the Protron?

    Those are the same diagrams you sent earlier. I have checked and re-checked and all is wired as per diagram. I even exchanged the red-yellow-white connectors with others to insure it was not in the wires.

    I tried both Line 1 and Line 2 on the Protron. With Line 1 I got nothing. With Line 2 I still only get a garbled pictore on the TV and when I try to play a DVD I get sound but no picture.

  • bank1234 Aug 10, 2008

    What I meant by my "exchanging" is that I replaced the red-white-yellow wires with other sets of wires of the same type. I did not change locations on the Protron and TV.

  • bank1234 Aug 10, 2008

    This is how I have it connected and it still will not come up on the Sanyo:

    3-lead harness #1:

    Yellow Sanyo Video OUT to Protron OUT Pb/B (Blue)White Sanyo Audio OUT "L" to Protron Audio OUT FLRed Sanyo Audio OUT "R" to Protron Audeo OUT FR

    3-lead Harness #2

    Yellow GoVideo Video to Protron Line 1 Video

    White GoVideo Audio L to Protron Line 1 Audio L

    Red GoVideo Audio R to Protron Line 1 Audio R

    Cable In to Protron RF IN, Protron RF OUT to GoVideo IN, GoVideo OUT to Sanyo UHF/VHF

    Somehow I feel Harness #1 is not right. OUT should not supposed to go to OUT.

    I do not understand your August 11 Comment.

    Have to go to Charlotte for medical ppointment and will not be back till afternoon.

  • bank1234 Aug 11, 2008

    Oops! I made a mistake. Replace "Sanyo" with "Toshiba." I wasn't thinking when I described cable connections.

    Cable #1

    Yellow Toshiba Video OUT to Protron Out Pb/B (Blue)

    White Toshiba Audio OUT L to Protron OUT FL

    Red Toshiba Audio OUT R to Protron Audio OUT FR

    I don't even own a Sanyo TV

  • bank1234 Aug 11, 2008

    After taking the yellow off the Pb/B and putting it onto the yellow video OUT and changing the leads from the TV OUT to IN and rerouting the cable through the GoVideo, then the Protron and on to the TV, I am getting a picture on the TV from the GoVideo, which I am attempting to record on the Protron. I will get back to you on my success (or lack of),

  • bank1234 Aug 12, 2008

    It seems to be working! However, on the two VHF tapes I have tried it sometimes stops recording, then almost immediately resumes after flashing a message that no input was found, to check connections. In between the two tapes I unplugged and replugged all jacks, but it still did it. Those are old tapes, so the problem may be in the tape.

  • bank1234 Aug 15, 2008

    Seems to be working, both with DVD+ and DVD-.

    Thank you.
