I've had three of the A series Powershots, and there is a common problem with the lens assembly. The assembly either jams in the telescoping zoom gears, or in the digital imaging assembly in the lens, in both cases the camera will not take pics. I've had both problems, and was told by Canon to send it in for repair, because the entire lens assembly had to be replaced. So, if the reset, that Ekse suggested, doesn't work, then I'm afraid you'll need to send it in, or take it to an authorized service center. I now use a Kodac Easyshare, the camera is great, but their software isn't quite as good as Canon's.

Hi,

You can try replacing it with new batteries.

i suggest you to once try switching over to 2500 mAh Nickel Metal Hydride rechargeable batteries.
you will see a difference.Digital cameras with zoom lens need more power than what can be supplied by ordinary batteries..

does the camera shoot a picture but doesn't save it? If the camera turns off your batterys may be weak.

  • Ekse Aug 08, 2008

    1. Turn on the camera

the mode dial can be turned into any setting

    2. press the menu button for longer than 5 seconds

the message "reset settings to defaults?" appears on the lcd monitor

    3. select OK using the left and right buttons, then press the set button.

it will take a moment let it work.

Canon Powershot A70. I get a 'Memory Card Error' when I turn it on. Did this three different cards. They don no appear to be defective. I just transferred all of the pictures form them to another hard...

When you transferred the pics from the cards to your computer, did you use the "safely remove hardware" function before removing the cards or cord or whatever method you used? If not, this is why you're getting the error message. If the pics are safely downloaded, format the cards in the camera to get them working again.

When turn on camera on screen is black

I think your Canon A70 camera does not show live view in camera mode to take pictures but show you previously stored picture properly in playback mode.
If that is true then Canon A70 camera got problem of bad ccd imager that will be replaced to get live vew in camera mode.
Canon will replace ccd imager for free, click Canon CCD Imager Advisory for details.
Thanks.

Canon Powershot A610

The CCD ribbon cable probably came loose, you will probably have to send it to Canon, This happened to my A70, and there was a recall on the CCD design, they replaced it for free, they might do the same for you.

Canon Powershot A70 Digital

When I got my A70 I got a CD with the software. If I connect the camera with USB cable to the computer, set the little lever on the back for the camera to display whatever pictures are in it, and turn the camera on, the computer recognizes the camera, opens the software and leads me through the process.
If you have some other photo software than the Canon software, it should still work.
