Question about PC Desktops

Acer L5100 and TV Tuner

Following on from other posts, there are no instructions for this PC and setting up the TV tuner in Windows Media Centre is driving me mad.

Starting from Media Centre I am going to TV setup, it prompts me for region (which is UK) and then asks me for signal input, which is satellite set-top box and then ask me if all the remote control stuff is set up properly, which it is (I have tried the cable from the set-top box to the PC and get a signal on a normal TV at around 800mhz).

I then get to the signal detect screen in Media Centre and select start scanning, almost immediately it comes back and says no signal found. And that's where I am stumped, tried everyting. Ned it to scan up beyond 800mhz and then it will find the set-top box input but it doesn't scan long enough to find anything!

Any help would be most appreciated.

I need help with how to connect my ATT Uverse cable service to my VAIO. I don't have a clue how to actually connect the cable(s?); but I keep getting the message that no reception is detected. I can download the ATT fiber optic TV guide with all of the correct stations listed, but there is only a grey screen whenever I try to bring in any of the 386 channels.

    Any clues for me?

Try normal arial first.
If OK, try freeview box again.
Check what tuner card you have fitted in Device Manager and check specs on google. Can it receive satellite freeview?
May be new drivers - check Tuner card website for driver updates and latest info.
reply back with what card is fitted.

Tv tuner will ot detect digital signal in windows media center, vista

All US TV signals are now digital, but most TV tuners are like our old TVs - analog. Are you sure your tuner is a DTV tuner? If not, you will need to replace it or get a DTV converter. A DTV converter will not let your computer pick the channel and time though.

But one footnote. Broadcast digital TV is often not the same a cable digital TV. If you get a cable digital signal it is encrypted to the actual serial number of the receiving box. No broadcast DTV converter can do this. This is how the cable company now controls the number of receivers and one has to pay for EVERY set.

think you'll find the drivers for the tuner are not compatible with windows 7. according to the hp website this is an xp machine. download the windows 7 compatibility checker from here to check http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=1B544E90-7659-4BD9-9E51-2497C146AF15&displaylang=en

You need to go through the Setup in Media Center. Open Media Center. Click on "TV and Movies" and then "Set up TV"
Good luck.

Used to watch tv through windows media centre on vista. Then moved my computer to another room, set it up the same way, now says there is no tv tuner?

If the TV tuner is USB, try shifting it to another USB port.

If the tuner is internal, turn off the PC, unplug the power cord from the wall, and open the PC. The card may have popped out of the PCI (or PCI express) slot when in transit. Then try again.

How do i set up an Acer Aspire 9920g Laptop to recive TV

there should be a wizard in windows media centre to connect to a reciever but thats normally only with a tv card, using a usb will not open through media centre you will have to use the software provided.

Obviously you will also need an aerial connection to a programme source

My computer is a HP Media Centre PC m7470n with a HP vs 19e 19 inch Flat Panel LCD Monitor. I am a cable TV user. What additional hardware/software do I need to view TV programs on my monitor.

you need one of those tv tuner add-in cards for the pc. these are usually pci type of card that goes inside your pc. If you dont want to open up your pc, there are also usb type/model of these tv tuner. they also come with their own drivers and tv viewing software

Vista will only work with digital signals, you may need to install a software program or hardware to switch from anolog to digital.
