Okay, open the top lid and you will see the cartridge pointing toward you, this is a large black looking plastic device. Reach in a grab it and pull it outward. it comes out fairly easy. Notice which end is toward you. To install the new one, first check to see the strip of plastic that needs to be pulled out. pull it and discard it. Then push your new one down in the same place the old came out of. It will kinda wiggle up and down going in, and if it doesn't go all the way in, pull it back out and push in, it usually goes right in place with no trouble, I have one of these printers for 8 years and it has never failed me, great machines.

Can't change ink cartriges

Hi

First of all be advised that this is a laser printer and the toner cartridge needs to be replaced.

Follow the steps below
1. Press the blue button on right side of the printer
2. Lift the toner cartridge a little up (This will unlock the cartidge from the holders)
3. remove it slowly and do not force remove the cartridge.
4. The new toner cartridge needs a little care to install

Does this printer need a toner and a ink cartidge

If it is an ink jet printer it only takes ink cartridges, toner cartridges are for laser printers.

I just installed a new ink cartridge and printed the test page. There are blots of ink on the right edge of the page, (and back) otherwise o.k. Does the printer need cleaning somewhere? Thanks for...

Print another test page or two. Often the toner has gotten onto a roller or something inside and it will clear itself off by running a few more sheets of paper through it. If that doesn't help, remove the toner cartridge and GENTLY use some canned air to remove any lose toner. IF you see alot of toner in the computer, don't blow it out but take a soft dry cloth and wipe it out. If it still continues, the fuser may have defects so it could be coming from that. Good luck, Wendy.

Do you get a new drum with a toner replacement cartidge or is it a separate thing you have to buy

Hello.

The drum and toner cartridge are separate items. Both are replaced by the user.

The toner cartridge holds toner/ink. The drum does the work. You will need to replace the drum for every 4-5 toner cartridges used.

I've seen toner cartridges for your printer at $36 vs $60 for a drum.

Hope this helps.

The yellow spot is blinking and the black dot is

the solid light means toner is low. Blinking usually means either the cartridge is out of toner or the cartridge is having a technical problem. If you pull the yellow toner cartridge and put it back in with no change in result, you will need to replace the yellow toner cartidge

HP 2840, black ink drum q3964a

Hello, these printers tend to be finicky.

In other words, just replace the black toner. When the printer says its low, or empty, regardless of wether or not it is, just replace it.

Replacing the drum, when it says black toner needs to be replaced will do nothing to rectify the issue.

Buy only HP Toner and Drum cartridges for this printer. Do not try to refill toner cartridges, and do not reset drum. You will only end up destroying your printer in the process.
