On these models, they have a primary and secondary cooling system. The left fan is the secondary, and will only turn on if the machine reaches a certain preset temperature. I really don't think that it's something to get concerned with, but if you are concerned, you can take the fan out, clean and inspect it, and make sure the connection is seated properly. If you do take it out, check to make sure that there isn't a hair wound in it. I've had many machines come through my shop that a hair had stopped the fan.

Engine cold. Start engine reading says engine hot ac off. Fans run all time.

Are the fans running on low or high ?
Circuit/System Description
The engine control module (ECM) commands the fans ON in either high speed or low speed, depending on cooling requirements. In low speed, both fans are turned ON at a reduced speed. High speed has both fans turned ON at full speed.
In low speed operation, the ECM applies ground to the coil side of the fan low relay. This energizes the coil and applies voltage directly to the left cooling fan through the switch side of the fan low relay, which is fed by the fan 1 fuse. The right fan is connected in series to the left fan through the de-energized fan control relay so that both operate at low speed.
In high speed operation, the ECM applies a ground to the coil side of the fan low relay, the fan control relay , and the fan high relay. On the fan high relay, the energized coil closes the switch side of the relay and applies voltage directly to the right cooling fan through the switch side of the relay, which is fed by the fan 2 fuse. At the same time, the ECM energizes fan control relay pulling the switch side over, providing a direct path to ground for the left cooling fan, which has voltage applied through the energized fan low relay. In high speed mode, the fans are operated as a parallel circuit with full voltage applied to each.
You should have it hooked up to a scan tool that can read engine sensor data parameters . Check for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes etc...
Circuit/System Verification
  1. If DTCs P0480 or P0481 are set, perform those diagnostics first.
  2. Ignition ON, verify with a scan tool that the control module is not commanding fan activation.
  3. Ignition ON, observe that the fans are not activated.
Your best bet is to take it to a ASE certified repair shop !

Fan Clutch R&R With Confidence Using Griller....Glitter Tool

...ever found you self asking which way to turn a mechanical fan clutch's inline coupling nut to remove clutch-fan assembly (It) without mangling a thread or special wrench? Well then, consider the Griller...Glitter mnemonic system described below and never fail to be "thread-wise in the know."
If you know or can bump the starter to see which way the fan spins viewed from the radiator, then knowing any or all of the easy-to-remember devices below will let you get that clutch off, or on, with confidence. For instance, with a left thread clutch nut, the installed clutch-fan assembly will always spin right/clockwise.
Remember, you only need to remember the ones that are easy to remember.
    ·GRILR
    ·GOES RIGHT? IT LOOSENS RIGHT.
·If fan clutch spins right/CW, turn its nut right/CW to loosen.
    ·GRITL
    ·GOES RIGHT? IT TIGHTENS LEFT.
·If fan clutch spins right/CW, turn its nut left/CCW to tighten
    ·GLILL
    ·GOES LEFT? IT LOOSENS LEFT.
·If fan clutch spins left/CCW, turn its nut left/CCW to loosen.
    ·GLITR
    ·GOES LEFT? IT TIGHTENS RIGHT.
·If fan clutch spins left/CCW, turn its nut right/CW to tighten.

2000 grand am gt over heating radiator fans not turning on

Overall Cooling fan operation is managed by the powertrain control module (PCM). Three relays control fan motor operation. In the underhood junction block, the 30A COOL FAN 1 fuse feeds power to (left) fan control relay 1; 15A COOL FAN 2 fuse feeds power to (right) fan control relay 2. The mode control relay determines whether the left fan, the right fan or both fans are turned on. If the two fuses are OK, the problem is a defective fan relay(s) or the PCM

Which way does a ceiling fan need to run in winter

Usually most peopledont want drafts on them in winter so making the fan turn with the edge thats turned down then that is the leading edge

IE say you look at the blade from the bottom
next note the blades are tilted you have to determine which way your blades are mounted. The fans may all be the same or some odd ones may be out there.
say looking up at a blade thTAs 12:00 from you
if the edge thats closer to the floor is on the left the fan turns left from 12:00 or Counter-clock wise to make the air blow toward the ceiling away from you. Reverse for cooling so the air blows on you.
This makes the air move upward.
If your ckoser edge is on the opposite side the fan turns opposite..
the edge thats turned down toward you is the direction of travel for winter
In small rooms with larger fan the air may make such a quick change that it feels like it blows on you in either direction.

Recent activity. Radiator fan isn't turning on which leads to overheating while in traffic. Is there a thermostat? Where? Or would it be a fan issue? I wouldn't know how to tell if the fan was bad.

what i suggest because it happened to me if the fusees are all good then stick your hand between your radiator and fairings and try to spin the fan by flicking if or something, if it doesn't move freely then it may have a foreign object in there or be bent like mine was. and replace or unbend
the fan does move... heres how i checked to see if it would work.. i unplugged my left blinker and unplugged the fan cable then connected the blinker with the fan cable and turned the left blinker on and it was turning on / off with the blinker flash..then i would check the relay if not that then the temp sender

Hope this helps
