Cannot get sound working on my compaq presario cq40-108tu running xp pro no xp compatible audio driver is found

Is this a computer that came with Vista? I see Vista driver on HP's site but nothing for XP.

I do know that more and more newer computer manufacturers are making hardware with Vista drivers only as it is considered the base OS that will run on the hardware.

You might be able to find a driver for a standalone card that will work, but you will need a reference point such as the numbers off of the media chip on the motherboard. You might be able to find some information from the Vista installation that would be useful.

I would recommend restoring Vista and make a list of all of the drivers that are installed and what they are for. This will give you a starting point for finding what you need when you reinstall XP.

My computer has no sound becouse i have changed my operating system(vista to xp)how can i slove this problem?

Hi,
You would have to find and install the sound drivers for your sound card, that compatible with windows xp.
If you are using an assemble PC , try looking for drivers on the motherboard manufacturer website.
If you are using a company fitted machine , look on the vendor website
If its a add on sound card , like creative, soundblaster or realtech, look for the on drivers on there specific websites.

Thanks

If it is a laptop or a brand PC, just post a new request on Fixya with computer's make and model, for explample Dell optiplex 120, we will find the drivers for you.
Ifcomputer is assembled you will need to access the motherboard, and the audio card and posthere the code number printed on the motherboard, on on a sticker on top of the motherboard, and post also numbers you find on all device cards (PCI, AGP etc.).
